California Grill
The short answer
California Grill is on the fifteenth floor of the Contemporary, with a full view over Magic Kingdom. Time the reservation so the fireworks fall mid-meal and the music is piped into the dining room — that is the whole reason this is one of the hardest tables on property.

Is it worth the money?
Yes, and it is one of the few restaurants at Walt Disney World where the food alone would justify the price. Book so that the fireworks fall during your meal — the restaurant dims the lights and pipes the soundtrack in, and guests with earlier reservations are welcome to return to the observation deck for the show. Around $95 a head before wine makes this a special occasion rather than a Tuesday.
Who it’s right for
Adults who want the best food at Walt Disney World and will book to coincide with the Magic Kingdom fireworks, which are viewed from the observation deck with the show’s music piped in. Worth planning a night around.
Who it’s wrong for
Families with young children, and anyone on a park-touring schedule — this is a two-hour dinner at the top of a resort, not a break between attractions. The dress code is enforced: no shorts or sleeveless shirts for men.
What is actually good
Prix fixe at $99 per adult and $42 per child aged 3 to 9, plus tax and gratuity, for three courses. The sushi is the surprise and it is genuinely good. Two things are charged on top: the Wagyu strip loin carries a $47 surcharge, and the wine pairing is another $78. Tiger prawns, lobster tail and scallops are à la carte enhancements at $22, $28 and $20.
Portions
Restaurant-normal, not Disney-generous. Three courses is a full evening; two plus sushi is the more common order.
Allergies and dietary needs
Excellent. À la carte with a chef available, and the kitchen is used to adapting the signature dishes, not substituting a plain alternative.
Common questions
- Can you watch the fireworks from California Grill?
- Yes, and it is the point. The restaurant dims the lights and plays the Magic Kingdom soundtrack during the show, and guests who dined earlier the same evening may return to the observation deck to watch. Time your reservation about ninety minutes before the show.
- What is the dress code at California Grill?
- Dressy. No shorts, swimwear or sleeveless shirts for men; collared shirts and long trousers are expected. It is enforced more consistently here than at most Walt Disney World restaurants.
- Is the sushi good at California Grill?
- Genuinely, and it is the thing regulars order. The restaurant runs a full sushi programme that few people expect from a theme park hotel, and it holds up against dedicated sushi restaurants in Orlando.
- Do you need a park ticket for California Grill?
- No. It is at the Contemporary Resort, not inside Magic Kingdom, so any guest can book without park admission, and you still get the fireworks view, which makes it a way to see them without a ticket.
- Does California Grill accept the Disney Dining Plan?
- No. Disney's own page for California Grill marks it "Dining Plan Meals Not Accepted" (checked 12 September 2026). Budget it in cash or card.
