Is Animal Kingdom worth it in 2026? Five rides, two of the best, and what reviewers say

What has Animal Kingdom lost in 2026?

A whole land. DinoLand U.S.A. closed for good in February 2026 to make way for Tropical Americas; DINOSAUR gave its last rides on 1 February, according to Disney Parks Blog. That left five rides: Avatar Flight of Passage, Na'vi River Journey, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids.

The Wildlife Express train also runs, out to Conservation Station.

One thing came back. Conservation Station and the train closed on 23 February 2026, as Disney Tourist Blog reported, and reopened on 26 May with Bluey's Wild World. Disney Parks Blog adds Jumping Junction, a new walk-through habitat for kangaroos and wallabies, and says the Bluey experience is staying beyond the summer.

How good is what is left?

Fewer rides, but two of the best at Disney World. Our combined ranking of seven published lists puts the park's rides here, out of 49, with the average posted wait from Queue-Times for 2025–26:

The shows carry more of the day than at any other park. Sunshine Whispers ranked all 46 Disney World shows, parades and spectaculars in February 2026. It put Festival of the Lion King second, Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!

12th, Zootopia: Better Zoogether! 24th and Tree of Life Awakenings 26th. The walking trails, Gorilla Falls and Maharajah Jungle Trek, add animals without a queue: Gorilla Falls averaged a 5-minute posted wait on Queue-Times.

What do the reviewers say?

Reviewers split on Animal Kingdom, and the split is about what you want from a day, not about whether the park is good.

• Disney Tourist Blog (March 2026) calls it highly skippable for guests who plan around rides, since the rides can be done by mid-morning. It also says not to skip it on a trip of four days or more, or if you like wildlife and theming.
• Disney Food Blog (February 2026) called it the saddest park at Disney World while DinoLand sits walled off. Its advice: go in the afternoon, skip buying Lightning Lane, and book Tusker House or Tiffins.
• Disney Dreamer (June 2026), a regular visitor, says it still works if you slow down: walk the trails, watch the animals and let the shows fill the gaps.
• DadsGuidetoWDW (November 2025, before DinoLand closed) would skip it if you cannot fit all four parks. Its complaints: the most walking, little shade, the earliest closing and no nightly fireworks. It still rates Flight of Passage, Everest, the shows and Pandora after dark.
• On the DISboards forum, a 2023 thread on whether a half day was worth the ticket split between yes, no and it depends, turning on cost more than the park.

The long view is Josh Spiegel's, at Mousterpiece in 2020. He argues it was always a full-day park if you accept that much of the day is not spent on fast rides.

How long do you need at Animal Kingdom?

Half a day covers the rides; a full day covers the park. Disney Tourist Blog's point is that the ride list can be finished by mid-morning, which is why a Park Hopper suits it. Flight of Passage is the one ride to plan around.

It averaged a 57-minute posted wait in 2025–26, the longest in the park by far, and it is a Single Pass Lightning Lane.

When does Tropical Americas open?

Disney has said 2027, and the sources now disagree on whether it still does. Tropical Americas is an 11-acre land built where DinoLand stood. Disney Parks Blog lists an Encanto ride, a new Indiana Jones adventure and a carousel.

• Disney Tourist Blog reported on 11 September 2026 that Disney had removed "2027" from the land's description on the Disney World website. Tom Bricker's prediction, and it is only a prediction, is a phased opening that runs into 2028.
• BlogMickey replied on 10 September 2026 that 2027 is still on the Disney Experiences projects page and on Disney Parks Blog.

We will change this when Disney names a date. Until then, plan a 2026 or early 2027 trip around the park as it is now.

Who should skip Animal Kingdom?

Skip it on a trip of three days or fewer if rides are the point: the other three parks have more of them, and Disney Tourist Blog puts Animal Kingdom first for cutting. Keep it if you have four days or more, if anyone in the group loves animals, or if you have a Park Hopper and can split the day.
