runDisney at Walt Disney World: the four race weekends, and what they mean for your trip
The short answer
Walt Disney World holds four runDisney weekends a year: Wine & Dine in October, Marathon Weekend in January, Princess Half Marathon in late February and Springtime Surprise in April. Each runs five days and stacks 5K, 10K and longer races into one weekend. They matter to non-runners too, because they fix dates when the resort fills.
What is runDisney?
runDisney is Disney's own race series, run on closed roads through the Walt Disney World theme parks and the resort areas between them. Every race carries a finisher medal, characters appear along the course, and the events are ticketed and registered separately from park admission.
Walt Disney World holds four in-person weekends a year, each spanning five days rather than a single race morning. Disney also runs a virtual series and a paid membership, Club runDisney, with three tiers.
Which runDisney race weekends does Walt Disney World hold?
Four, spaced across the year, and each one anchors a five-day weekend rather than a single morning.
Weekend | Dates Disney has published | Longest race |
|---|---|---|
Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend | 22 to 25 October 2026 | Half marathon |
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend | 6 to 10 January 2027 | Marathon |
Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend | 26 February to 2 March 2026 | Half marathon |
runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend | 16 to 20 April 2026 | 10-miler |
Two of those dates are last season's, and Disney's own page still shows them. The Princess and Springtime weekends listed above have already run; Disney had not published their next editions when this page was checked on 20 September 2026. Wine & Dine and Marathon Weekend are the two with dates still ahead of them.
Marathon Weekend 2027 is the notable one: Disney is marking the 30th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, with Donald Duck — the half marathon's inaugural mascot — fronting every race across the weekend.
What races are in each runDisney weekend?
Each weekend stacks a short race, a middle distance and a long one, plus a challenge that combines them for an extra medal.
- Wine & Dine — 5K, 10K, half marathon, Wine & Two Course Challenge, post-race party
- Marathon Weekend — 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge, Dopey Challenge
- Princess — 5K, 10K, half marathon, Fairytale Challenge, Princess Yoga
- Springtime Surprise — 5K, 10K, 10-miler, Springtime Surprise Challenge, Yoga
The challenges are the part worth understanding before entering one, because they are not a single longer race — they are consecutive races on consecutive mornings.
How far is the Dopey Challenge, and the Goofy Challenge?
The Dopey Challenge is all four Marathon Weekend races on four consecutive days: the 5K, the 10K, the half marathon and the full marathon. That is 48.6 miles. Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge is the last two of those, the half and the full on back-to-back mornings, for 39.3 miles.
Those two totals are arithmetic, not a figure Disney prints, so here is the check on the method. Disney does publish a total for one challenge: the Springtime Surprise Challenge, a 5K, a 10K and a 10-miler, at 19.3 miles. Adding standard race distances — 3.1, 6.2 and 10 — gives 19.3 exactly.
The same addition gives Goofy 13.1 plus 26.2, and Dopey 3.1 plus 6.2 plus 13.1 plus 26.2.
How much does a runDisney race cost, and when does it sell out?
Disney publishes neither figure on its runDisney events page, and this guide is not going to invent them.
Registration runs through runDisney's own site, which sits behind a virtual waiting room — the queue that appears when demand for a release exceeds capacity. That is itself the most useful fact about selling out: Disney builds race registration to expect more entrants at once than it can serve, which is not how a race with spare places is sold.
What can be planned around is the date. If a race weekend matters to your trip, the dates above are the fixed points; the price and the release date come from runDisney's registration pages when Disney opens them.
Does a runDisney weekend affect your trip if you are not running?
A race weekend fills the resort, and it does it on dates you can look up in advance, which is the whole practical point for a non-runner.
Marathon Weekend sits in the first full week of January, immediately after the Christmas crowds leave — a week that would otherwise be one of the quieter ones of the year. Wine & Dine sits inside the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival. In both cases the races bring several days of arrivals who are not there for the parks, and who book hotel rooms.
Disney does not publish the operational detail on this page — which roads close, which buses re-route, or which park opens late — so we are not going to state it as though it did.
What this page can give you is the calendar: check your dates against the four weekends above, and if they overlap, look for the race-morning specifics closer to the time.
