What it’s actually like
The first attraction to use Audio-Animatronics, opened at Disneyland in 1963. The tiki birds outside the entrance sing while you wait, which is a better queue than most rides manage.
You sit still. One brief section with thunder and lowered lights startles some very small children; otherwise entirely gentle. No motion of any kind.

- Has the Tiki Room changed?
- The current version is close to the 1963 original. A rewritten show ran from 1998 until a fire damaged the building in 2011, and what reopened went back to something much nearer the first one. If you remember it from decades ago, you are remembering roughly what is playing now.
- Is the Tiki Room scary for children?
- Almost never, with one moment worth knowing. There is a thunderstorm sequence where the room darkens and the tiki gods wake up, loud enough to startle a toddler. It lasts under a minute and the birds come back.
- How long is the Tiki Room and is there a wait?
- Ten minutes, and rarely any wait at all. The theatre holds more people than usually turn up, so you generally walk in at the next show cycle. It is the cheapest air conditioning in Adventureland.
