Is it worth the money?

Yes — and it is better value than its headline price suggests, which is the opposite of most things at Walt Disney World.

Because tax and gratuity are already in the number, the $78 is the number. Every buffet you might compare it to is quoting you 25% short. A family of four in Category 1 pays $246 and owes nothing further; the same family at a $69-a-head character buffet is looking at roughly $300 once tax and a tip land.

The unlimited beer, wine and sangria is not a footnote. Two drinks each for two adults is $30 to $40 anywhere else on property.

Now the part that ruins evenings: getting there. Disney's own page states there is no direct route between Disney Resort hotels and Fort Wilderness.

Allow up to an hour and a half for the ferry from Magic Kingdom. Driving does not solve it — you park at the resort entrance and take an internal bus, and Disney says to allow another 30 minutes for that. A Minnie Van is the only option that drops at Pioneer Hall itself, and on this trip it is worth the money.

Check in 30 minutes before your seating time. Doors open at 4:00 PM, 6:15 PM or 8:30 PM, seating starts immediately, and the show begins 20 minutes after the doors.

Category 3 is on the second floor and there is no elevator. Disney is explicit: wheelchair-accessible seating is in Category 1. Category 2 spans both floors with limited accessible seating on the main floor only. Category 3 has none. Anyone with mobility limits should book Category 1 and not economise here — the $8 saved is not worth a staircase after a park day.

The reservation cannot be modified once confirmed. Not the time, not the category, not the party size. Get it right the first time.

Is Category 1 worth $8 over Category 3? For accessibility, unambiguously. For sightlines, this is a small hall and a broad comedy show — the cheap seats see it fine. Book Category 3 and spend the $26 on the Minnie Van.

What is actually good

The prices include tax and gratuity, and almost nothing else at Walt Disney World does. Disney's seating chart says so in as many words. Read on 11 September 2026:

Category 1 — $78 for ages 10 and older, $45 for ages 3 to 9. Category 2 — $74 and $41. Category 3 — $70 and $40.

That changes the comparison completely. 1900 Park Fare's dinner buffet is $69 *plus* tax and gratuity. Add Orange County's 6.5% and it is $73.48 before anyone tips; an 18% tip takes it to $85.91 and 20% to $87.28. Category 1 at Hoop-Dee-Doo, all in, is $78. The dinner show looks $9 dearer on the menu and lands roughly $8 to $9 cheaper on the card.

Two adults and two children pay $246, $230 or $220 depending on category — a $26 spread across the room.

The food is one menu and it does not change. All-you-care-to-enjoy fried chicken and smoked BBQ pork ribs, tossed green salad, cowboy beans, fresh-baked cornbread, macaroni-and-cheese, creamy coleslaw, and strawberry shortcake to finish.

Drinks are included and that is unusual too. Unlimited draft beer, wine and sangria for guests 21 and over with proper ID, and soft drinks for everyone. At a Disney restaurant two beers alone would run most of $20, which pushes the real gap against a buffet wider still.

Portions

All-you-care-to-enjoy, served family-style to the table in buckets and pans rather than collected from a buffet. Nobody leaves hungry, and nobody gets up during the show — the refills come to you, which is the practical difference between this and a buffet with a stage.

Allergies and dietary needs

This is the weakest part of the experience and the hardest to work around, because there is one fixed menu built on fried chicken and pork ribs. Disney's kitchens will prepare allergy-friendly and plant-based alternatives on request, but they have to be arranged rather than chosen from a list, and the reservation cannot be modified once confirmed — so the conversation has to happen at booking or by phone, not at the table. Call before you pay.
