Universal Epic Universe: what a day costs, what is in it, and whether to buy Express Pass

What is Epic Universe?

Epic Universe is Universal Orlando's fifth gate and the first entirely new theme park built in Orlando since Disney's Animal Kingdom in 1998. It opened in May 2025, and it is laid out as a central hub with four themed worlds off it, not as a loop.

Eleven rides across five worlds is a smaller count than any Walt Disney World park, and the comparison is misleading in both directions: the rides are newer and denser in effect, and a family that rides everything twice will still have hours left.

Whether that is a full day or a long half is the question most argued over about the park, and it depends almost entirely on queues, which is why the Express Pass question below matters more here than it does at Disney.

How much does a day at Epic Universe cost?

A single-day adult ticket runs from about $139 to $199 before tax depending on the date, and Universal prices every day separately instead of publishing one figure. Multi-day tickets fall a long way below that per day.

The child discount is close to nothing, which is the opposite of the Disney pattern. A three-day four-park child ticket starts at $150 against $153.34 for an adult — a difference of about three dollars a day.

At Walt Disney World a child ticket is meaningfully cheaper and a child under three is free; budgeting a Universal trip on Disney's age assumptions will be wrong by hundreds of dollars for a family of four.

From January 2026, multi-day tickets of three days or more let you move freely between Epic Universe, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, which was not true when the park opened.

Is Express Pass worth it at Epic Universe?

Express Pass at Epic Universe is a different product from the one people know from the older Universal parks, and three of its differences all push the same way.

• It is single-use, not unlimited. One ride per eligible attraction per day. The unlimited version sold at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure is not available here.
• No hotel includes it. At the Premier hotels on the original campus — Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, Royal Pacific — unlimited Express Pass comes free with the room. At Epic Universe's own hotels it does not, and Universal's leadership has said publicly that it is not planned.
• It is priced by demand, across a very wide band.

And the published price ranges disagree by a factor of three, which is itself the finding. Disney Tourist Blog gives $199.99 to $329.99 and an average near $260 in summer 2026. Deep Arrival gives about $130 off-peak, $190 to $270 on moderate days and over $300 at peak. Theme Park Shark gives $89 to $179.

We cannot reconcile those and we are not going to average them into a number that looks authoritative — the useful conclusion is that you must price your own date, and that a figure quoted in an article is a figure from one day.

The cleanest test is arithmetic, not opinion: at the top of the range, Express Pass for one day costs more than a second day's admission. If you can go twice, going twice usually beats paying to queue less once.

How tall does a child have to be at Epic Universe?

Two of the headline rides sit at 48 inches and two of the most wanted sit at 40, which is the split that decides whether a young family gets full value.

Should a Disney trip include Epic Universe?

Epic Universe is the strongest argument for adding Universal to a Walt Disney World trip that has existed in a long time, and the reasons are practical, not tribal. It is new, it is the thing everybody in the queue at Disney is talking about, and it is 8.5 miles away — a 20 to 30 minutes drive outside peak traffic.

The case against is equally practical. It is a separate ticket at close to Disney prices, a separate hotel decision if you want the Express Pass benefits of the original campus, and a day taken out of a Disney trip that most families have already made too short.

The short version: on a trip of five days or fewer, adding Epic Universe costs you a Disney park you have not seen. On a trip of seven or more, it is the best new thing in Orlando and the timing will not be this good again.

Nobody on this site has been to Epic Universe. This page is researched from Universal's published information and from named outlets that have, each source dated and tiered below, and it carries no ride ranking and no verdict on the theming, because those need a visit.

It also carries none of our own measurement, and that is a real difference from every Walt Disney World page here. Our wait logger runs against the four Disney parks and both Disney water parks; it does not track Universal.

So there is no live wait time on this page, no source-agreement figure and no dated price series — the things that make the rest of this site worth reading are absent here, and pretending otherwise would be worse than saying so.

What this page can do honestly is collect what is published, say where the published sources disagree, and be clear about which is which. On the Express Pass price they disagree by a factor of three, and that gap is more useful to know about than any single number inside it.
