How to spend one day at Magic Kingdom — the order, from our own queue record

What order should you do Magic Kingdom in?

By when each queue is shortest, which our own record measures. We log every posted wait at Magic Kingdom every five minutes. Across the six regular nights from 5 to 12 September 2026, 57,291 readings, this is what the headline rides averaged:

The middle of the day runs from four hours after opening to two hours before closing. The last hour is the hour before the park's own closing time. Halloween party nights, when the park shuts to day guests at 6pm, are left out.

These are posted waits, which Disney pads, and one week of September is not a season, so read the pattern rather than the minute.

Where should you start at Magic Kingdom?

In Frontierland. Tiana's Bayou Adventure averaged 12 minutes in the first two hours and 42 in the middle of the day, the biggest saving in the park. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad went from 17 to 36.

Then Haunted Mansion, 15 minutes early against 27 later, and across to Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear, both about half their midday wait.

Disney Tourist Blog's one-day plan, published in May 2026, starts the same way: Frontierland first, then Adventureland, leaving Fantasyland to the hotel guests who arrive for Early Theme Park Entry. OrlandoParksGuy's no-Lightning-Lane plan from the same month starts the other way, with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Peter Pan's Flight first. Our record sides with Disney Tourist Blog.

Both Fantasyland rides were only about 10 minutes shorter early, and shorter still at the end of the night.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure closes for refurbishment from 2 November 2026, and Disney's page expects it back in December 2026. On those dates, start at Big Thunder Mountain instead.

When should you ride TRON?

Early, or with a Lightning Lane Single Pass, which is how Disney sells it. TRON is the one headline ride whose queue grew all day in our record: 50 minutes in the first two hours, 65 at midday and 81 in the last hour. It also averaged 63 minutes across 2025–26 on Queue-Times, the longest at Magic Kingdom.

Here our record and the published advice part company. One planning site recommends TRON at night, for the lit-up coaster, and OrlandoParksGuy rides it an hour before the fireworks.⁴ The ride is better after dark; the queue, in our six nights, was also at its worst. Riders must be 48 inches tall.

What should you do in the middle of the day?

The indoor shows, lunch and the parade, while the big queues peak. Mickey's PhilharMagic, the Enchanted Tiki Room and Country Bear Musical Jamboree all averaged 10 to 13 minutes at midday in our record, and both published plans use them for the hot afternoon. Disney Tourist Blog adds an early lunch at Jungle Navigation Co. Skipper Canteen or Columbia Harbour House.

Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade, a 12-minute parade, ranked third of 46 Disney World shows on Sunshine Whispers' February 2026 list. Disney Tourist Blog gives its time as 3pm. OrlandoParksGuy uses the parade to ride Buzz Lightyear in Tomorrowland while the crowd is on Main Street.

Parade times change, so check the Disney app on the day.

What should you save for the evening?

The fireworks, then the last hour. Happily Ever After is an 18-minute show, and Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, the night parade, ranked fifth of 46 on Sunshine Whispers' list; Disney Tourist Blog puts them at 10pm and 9pm on the nights it describes.

The last hour is where our record is most useful. On regular nights Seven Dwarfs Mine Train averaged 33 minutes in the final hour and 27 in the final 20 minutes, against 50 at midday. Peter Pan's Flight fell to 28, Jungle Cruise to 11 and Winnie the Pooh to 16.

Disney Tourist Blog's advice is to join a line just before closing, and the numbers bear it out for every headline ride except TRON.

Is Lightning Lane worth it for one day at Magic Kingdom?

For a single day it buys back the middle, which is where our record shows the longest waits. Multi Pass works best on the rides you did not reach early: Peter Pan's Flight, Jungle Cruise and Winnie the Pooh all averaged 33 to 45 minutes at midday. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON are Single Pass rides, sold one at a time.

Lightning Lane opens seven days ahead for Disney hotel guests and three days for everyone else, according to Disney.

Disney Tourist Blog's plan skips Multi Pass altogether if you follow its standby order and suggests a Single Pass for Seven Dwarfs later in the day. Our Lightning Lane guide has the prices.

Who should not follow this plan?

Anyone visiting on a Halloween party night, when Magic Kingdom closes to day guests at 6pm and the evening in this plan does not exist: check the party dates before picking your day. Families with small children, because four of these rides have height limits: TRON 48 inches, Space Mountain 44, Tiana's Bayou Adventure 40, and Big Thunder and Seven Dwarfs 38.

The height checker sorts that out. And anyone visiting at a holiday, when one week of September will not describe the queues.
