What it’s actually like

Slow circular motion with gentle rising and falling. No drops, nothing dark, nothing sudden. Suitable for the youngest children, and adults can walk alongside a nervous rider.

Can you ride the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel in a wheelchair?

Yes — an accessible position is available, and an ECV is exchanged for a wheelchair first. For riders who can transfer but cannot mount a horse, there is chariot seating, which is the practical option and does not need to be pre-arranged.

Is the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel suitable for toddlers?

Yes, with an adult standing alongside for the smallest riders. There is no height requirement, it is two minutes long, and the horses have a belt. The step up is the only real obstacle.

Is there anything special about this carousel?

It is the oldest purpose-built ride in Magic Kingdom and it is not a Disney original. Philadelphia Toboggan Company began it in 1917 and finished it in 1918 as Carousel No. 46, and it spent decades at Detroit's Palace Garden Park and then Olympic Park in Maplewood, New Jersey, where Disney's Imagineers found it in 1967, slated for demolition. The horses were hand-carved in maple. The one with a gold ribbon on its tail is traditionally said to be Cinderella's — park lore rather than anything Disney claims, but children queue a little longer for it.

Is the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel worth queueing for?

Only when the line is short, which it usually is. Two minutes of ride and it loads seventy-odd riders at a time, so the queue moves far faster than its length suggests. Ride it at night, when the castle behind it is lit.
