Is it worth the money?
Yes, and it is the most useful restaurant on the monorail loop for reasons that have nothing to do with the cooking.
It is open from 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is the longest service we have priced anywhere, and it means Kona is the answer when a plan collapses — a late arrival, an early morning before rope drop, a dinner after a full park day when everything else stopped seating at nine.
The food is competent and the sushi is better than it needs to be, made at a counter in the room. At $33.43 average for an entrée it is priced like a moderate resort restaurant while sitting in a deluxe.
It is upstairs, and that is not obvious. Kona is on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House, above the shops and the lobby. People arrive at the Polynesian, cannot find it, and eat at the quick-service instead.
Easy to book, too — the Polynesian's demand goes to 'Ohana, which leaves Kona available when the rest of the monorail loop is gone.
Who it’s right for
Anyone on the monorail loop who wants a real meal at an awkward hour. Sushi eaters, who get a proper list rather than a token roll. Anyone who failed to book 'Ohana. Vegetarians, who get the cheapest entrée and the cheapest sushi. Early risers — breakfast from 7:30 AM is before most parks open.
Who it’s wrong for
Anyone wanting the Polynesian's signature experience, which is 'Ohana upstairs in the same building. Anyone avoiding raw fish, who loses half the menu. And anyone expecting a view — Kona faces inward, and the lagoon is somewhere else.
What is actually good
Read from Disney's own dinner menu on 11 September 2026.
Seven distinct entrées, $27 to $41, averaging $33.43. Tamarind Barbecue Chicken and a Sautéed Red Quinoa both at $27, Seasonal Fish $32, Char Siu Duck $33, Beer-braised Pork Shank $34, Kona-braised Short Rib $40, New York Strip Steak $41.
The quinoa appears five times on the menu — plain at $27, with tofu or chicken at $34, with mahi or shrimp at $37. Those are protein choices on one dish, not five entrées, and counting them separately would put the average at $34.18 off a menu that does not have eleven mains. Counted once, at its base price.
A real sushi list, eleven rolls $16 to $49. Vegetable Roll $16, California Roll $18, Spicy Tuna and Shrimp Tempura at $19, Crab and Shrimp $24, Rainbow and Dragon Eel at $25, Dynamite $26, Surf and Turf and Shrimp Fire Cracker at $28, and a Combination Platter at $49. Two poke bowls, $22 and $25.
Seven appetisers, $9 to $19: seasonal soup $9, edamame hummus $11, bao buns $12, pork-vegetable potstickers $13, glazed chicken wings $15, octopus $18, tuna tataki $19.
Disney bands breakfast, lunch and dinner identically at $$, "$15 to $34.99 per adult", and the distinct-entrée average of $33.43 sits inside it with two exceeding. All three meal periods carry the same badge. That is not universal — at Akershus and Hollywood & Vine the same page layout bands dinner a tier above breakfast — but it is not rare either; Ale & Compass bands all three alike too.
Portions
Generous, and the sushi is the reason to come hungry rather than the entrées. A roll at $16 to $28 and an appetiser is a proper meal for less than most entrées, which makes the menu unusually flexible for a resort restaurant. The quinoa with a protein at $34 to $37 is a large bowl.
Allergies and dietary needs
Among the better resort restaurants for it. The Sautéed Red Quinoa at $27 is vegetarian as served and becomes vegan-adjacent with tofu at $34; the Vegetable Roll at $16 is the cheapest thing on the sushi list; edamame hummus and bao buns cover the appetisers. Raw fish runs through the sushi and poke, so a pregnant or immunocompromised diner has fewer options than the menu length suggests.
Disney publishes 5 of its seven allergen menus for this location — peanut and tree nut, fish and shellfish, egg, gluten and wheat and milk — listing 12 allergen-friendly items from $19.00 to $31.00, read 16 September 2026. That is a menu you can check before you travel. Most locations have none, and there the conversation happens at the counter: see our food allergy guide.
Common questions
- What time does Kona Cafe open?
- 7:30 AM for breakfast, with lunch from 11:45 AM and dinner from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM. That is the longest service of any table-service restaurant we have priced, which makes it the fallback when a day runs early or late.
- How much is Kona Cafe?
- Seven distinct entrées ran $27 to $41 on Disney's own dinner menu in September 2026, averaging $33.43. Sushi rolls are $16 to $28 with a combination platter at $49, and appetisers $9 to $19.
- Where is Kona Cafe in the Polynesian?
- Upstairs, on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House above the lobby and shops. It is not visible from the ground floor, which is why people arrive and end up at the quick-service instead.
- Is the sushi at Kona Cafe any good?
- Better than a resort café needs to be, and made at a counter in the room rather than brought out. Eleven rolls from $16, two poke bowls, and a $49 combination platter. A roll and an appetiser costs less than most entrées.
