Is it worth the money?
This is the character meal for people who do not like character meals.
The standard trade at a Disney character dinner is that you accept mediocre buffet food in exchange for meeting characters without queueing. Story Book Dining does not make you take that trade: it is plated, prix fixe, and cooked in what was until recently one of Walt Disney World's signature kitchens.
The character interaction is also better structured than most. Snow White, Dopey and Grumpy work the room, and the Evil Queen holds a station of her own — which is more theatre than a costumed handshake and lands well with older children who have started to find character meals babyish.
At $69 an adult it is priced with the more expensive character meals and delivers considerably more for it. The reservation is hard but not the hardest, and the room and lobby are worth the boat ride on their own.
Who it’s right for
Families who want a character meal without eating badly, and particularly ones with older children who are outgrowing them — the Evil Queen is the reason it still works at nine or ten. Anyone with a serious dietary requirement, since plated service handles it far better than a buffet. And anyone who wants to see Wilderness Lodge's lobby, which is reason enough for the trip.
Who it’s wrong for
Anyone wanting many characters at once — this is three plus the Queen, not a parade. Anyone who wants to choose freely from a menu, since it is prix fixe. Toddlers who will not sit through three courses. And anyone on a tight budget, because at roughly $69 a head it is among the pricier character meals on property.
What is actually good
A prix-fixe dinner: shared appetizers for the table, one entrée each, shared desserts.
The entrées are the reason this is not a normal character meal. Disney's menu of 13 September 2026 lists seven, among them the Royal Prime Rib Roast, Magic Mirror's Slow-braised Pork Shank, a beef stroganoff, herbed chicken, market fish and a vegetarian plate called A Stroll through Nature — plated dishes rather than buffet holding-tray food.

The shared desserts arrive as a set piece, including a poison apple that is the thing children photograph. Children order from their own menu — chicken strips, grilled chicken, fish or prime rib with two sides.
Portions
A full three courses and more food than most people expect from a character dinner. The shared starters are generous enough that a light eater can stop there. Children's portions are properly sized rather than tokenistic.
Allergies and dietary needs
Strong, and much better than a buffet can manage. Because it is plated and Disney-operated, the chef consultation genuinely works — dishes are rebuilt rather than substituted, and the vegetarian entree is a designed dish rather than a side plate. This is the character meal to choose if someone at the table has a real allergy.
