Disney cruise kids clubs: the ages since the 2023 change, what each ship has, how check-in works and what the nursery costs
The short answer
The Oceaneer Club and Lab are for toilet-trained children aged 3 to 10, Edge for 11 to 14 and Vibe for 14 to 17, all included in the fare. The bands changed in December 2023, so guides saying 3 to 12 are out of date. Only the nursery, for 6 months to 3 years, costs extra: $9 an hour.
Which Disney cruise kids club is my child in?
Placement goes by your child's age on the day you sail, not the day you booked.1
Space | Ages | Cost |
|---|---|---|
"it's a small world" nursery | 6 months to 3 years | $9 an hour for the first child, $8 for each sibling |
Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab | 3 to 10, fully toilet trained | Included |
Edge | 11 to 14 | Included |
Vibe | 14 to 17 | Included |
The bands changed on 21 December 2023. Before then the Oceaneer spaces took children to 12; TouringPlans flagged the change, and a planDisney panelist confirmed the 3-to-10 rule for every ship in January 2025. Plenty of older guides still say 3 to 12.
Fourteen-year-olds can choose Edge or Vibe. Everyone, parents included, can visit every space together during the scheduled open houses.
What is the hardest age for Disney cruise kids clubs?
Eleven. A ten-year-old is in the Oceaneer Club with its slides and play zones; an eleven-year-old is in Edge, a lounge with video games, karaoke and trivia. One planning site calls it the largest single step in the programme, because it changes the kind of space, not just the room.1
It matters most with siblings. A planDisney panelist, answering a parent whose eleven-year-old did not want to be alone, confirmed she could not join her younger siblings during programmed hours, only at open houses. If your child turns eleven shortly before the cruise, tell them in advance which club is theirs.
What is in the Oceaneer Club on each Disney ship?
The newer the ship, the bigger the themed zones.
- Disney Wish and Treasure — Marvel Super Hero Academy, Star Wars: Cargo Bay, Fairytale Hall and the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab; on the Wish also Mickey and Minnie's Captain's Deck, and a slide down from the Grand Hall
- Disney Adventure — Fairytale Hall, the Marvel WEB Workshop and the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab; Edge and Vibe hidden behind shopfronts on San Fransokyo Street
- Magic, Wonder, Dream and Fantasy — The Oceaneer Club and the separate Oceaneer Lab, with activities such as Doc McStuffins' Toy Hospital
The Wish's line-up is from TouringPlans' photo tour and DCL Fan, the Treasure's from Deep Arrival in July 2026, the Adventure's from DCL Fan in March 2026 and the older ships' from DCL Fan's club guide.
How does check-in work at the Disney cruise kids club?
You register your children online before the cruise, then finish on board. One planning site puts the embarkation-day open house as the best time to complete the paperwork and collect each child's ID band.4
The band records your child's age group, stateroom, medical notes and whether they may leave alone. Children tap it at the entrance to check in and out, and counsellors can see where every child is.
Self check-out is for ages 8 and up only, and only with your permission, set in advance. Younger children must be collected by an adult.
Toilet training is a hard rule. planDisney panelists said in 2020 and again in July 2025 that a child must be fully toilet trained and able to use the restroom alone. A three-year-old who is not can use the nursery instead.
When are the Disney cruise kids clubs open?
Long hours. Apart from embarkation day, the Oceaneer Club and Lab typically run from 9 a.m. to midnight or 1 a.m., with fewer activities and sometimes shorter hours on port days.4 The Navigator app lists each day's schedule and the open-house times.
Because the clubs are included and open so late, an adults-only dinner at Palo is easy to fit in, in our view. Our adults on a Disney cruise guide covers what there is to do.
How much is the "it's a small world" nursery, and how do you book it?
The nursery is the one youth space that costs extra. A planDisney panelist gave the price in September 2024 as $4.50 a half hour for the first child and $4 for each additional child, with a one-hour minimum; TouringPlans gives the same as $9 and $8 an hour.
Book early. Reservations open before the cruise by Castaway Club tier, according to DCL Fan: 120 days out for Concierge and Platinum, 105 for Gold, 90 for Silver and 75 for first-time cruisers. You can pre-book 10 hours per child on cruises of two to five nights, 15 on six-night cruises and 18 on seven- and eight-night ones.
Cancel at least four hours ahead to avoid a charge. Any unbooked time can be requested on embarkation day, between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., the panelist said.
What is there for tweens and teens on a Disney cruise?
Edge, for 11 to 14, and Vibe, for 14 to 17, are hangouts rather than play spaces. On the Dream and Fantasy, Edge used to sit inside the forward funnel; the Dream's 2024 refit and the Fantasy's 2025 refit moved it to Deck 5, with a lounge and a deck shared with Vibe, according to Cruising Earth.
Guides written before then still send you to the funnel.
The Wish added the Hideaway, a flexible room next to Vibe that can open to teens, close off for tween events or be reserved for guests aged 18 to 20.4
