Disney's Blizzard Beach: what it costs, what is running, and who it suits

What does a day at Blizzard Beach cost?

Water park admission is a separate ticket from the theme parks, and it is the same price at either water park.

Lockers are rented at Beach Haus, just inside the entrance. Polar Patios are the cabana product here, and they include towels, a locker, drinks, cushioned furniture and an attendant. Cabana pricing at both water parks moved to a demand-based range during 2026.

It is no longer a fixed regular and peak rate. A figure quoted from an older article is therefore not a price you can budget against, so check on the day you book.

Disney resort hotel guests get one free water park visit on check-in day within a stated season; in 2026 that ran from 26 May to 8 September. It is covered in more detail on the Typhoon Lagoon page, and it applies to whichever park is open.

What is there to ride at Blizzard Beach?

Twelve attractions, and our own catalogue holds all twelve with their live status: Chairlift, Cross Country Creek, Downhill Double Dipper, Melt-Away Bay, Runoff Rapids, Ski Patrol Training Camp, Slush Gusher, Snow Stormers, Summit Plummet, Teamboat Springs, Tike's Peak and Toboggan Racers.

Summit Plummet is the reason the park has a reputation. It drops 120 feet from the top of Mount Gushmore, at close to vertical. Disney and the outlets that cover it agree on a top speed of up to 60 miles per hour.

Not every source does. One widely-shared video caption puts it at 55. We mention that only because a figure repeated confidently on social video is the kind that ends up quoted back as fact.

The theming is a joke carried a very long way. Disney's own backstory has a freak snowstorm hitting Florida, a ski resort going up to take advantage, and the whole thing melting. So the slides are ski runs, the lift to the summit is a chairlift, and the park is laid out on colour-coded slopes.

It is the least subtle premise at Walt Disney World and it is completely committed to.

Is Slush Gusher open at Blizzard Beach?

No, and it has been shut a long time. WDWMagic reported Slush Gusher temporarily closed on 4 April 2026 with no explanation and no reopening date from Disney, and it was still listed as unavailable in August.

Our own record puts a date on the current state instead of repeating the report. Blizzard Beach entered our five-minute ingestion on 7 September 2026. On that first night Slush Gusher returned a status of REFURBISHMENT on every poll, while the other eleven attractions returned CLOSED for the evening.

That makes it the second ride we have ever observed in refurbishment, against one across all four theme parks in the same window. It is a reminder of how small a forward-built record still is, and of why a page should say what it has and not imply a history it does not.

The practical consequence is that the park is running eleven of twelve, and the missing one is a headline slide. Anyone choosing Blizzard Beach specifically for the pair of speed slides should know that only Summit Plummet is available.

When is Blizzard Beach open in 2026?

Blizzard Beach is the water park Disney is keeping open, and our own hours feed shows how far ahead that is committed. On 7 September 2026 the feed carried published operating hours for Blizzard Beach on thirty-one consecutive dates, through 7 October. For Typhoon Lagoon it carried two.

That matches Disney's notice that Typhoon Lagoon temporarily closes from 9 September 2026.

The published hours also show the season turning, which is the sort of thing only a dated record catches:

• 7 – 11 September — 10:00 to 18:00
• 12 September — 10:00 to 19:00
• 13 September – 7 October — 10:00 to 17:00

An hour comes off the end of the day from 13 September. Disney publishes roughly a month of hours at a time. So this is what is committed, not what will happen all autumn, and the figure to plan against is the one on the calendar the week you go.

Disney's standing rule is that at least one water park is open each day except in bad weather.

How tall does a child have to be at Blizzard Beach?

Blizzard Beach has the only minimum height at either water park that is not about a speed slide. It catches people out because it is on the way up, not the way down.

• Summit Plummet — 48 in / 122 cm and over
• Downhill Double Dipper — 48 in / 122 cm and over
• Chairlift — 32 in / 81 cm and over
• Tike's Peak — 48 in / 122 cm and under
• Everything else — any height

The chairlift is the ride to the summit, so a child under 32 inches cannot take it and a child under 48 inches cannot ride the slide it serves. Everything else — the wave pool, the lazy river, the family rafts, the racers, the toboggans — has no minimum at all, which is nine of twelve.

Tike's Peak runs the other way as a maximum, because it is the toddler area.

What is there to eat at Blizzard Beach?

Lottawatta Lodge is the main counter, and on Disney's menu of 15 September 2026 it is cheaper than the theme parks: a cheeseburger is $11.79, against a typical $13.99 at a park counter, and chicken strips $10.99. Flatbreads run $11.29 to $12.49, rice bowls with chicken or shrimp $15.79, and an Impossible burger $13.99. Kids' meals are $8.29 to $8.99, and a fountain drink $4.49.

You can bring your own food. Disney's park rules do not ban it, but they do ban alcohol, glass containers other than small baby-food jars, and any cooler or bag larger than 24 by 15 by 18 inches, at the water parks as at the theme parks. Wagons are not allowed either.

Should you go to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon?

Published opinion splits along a clear line and it is a difference in taste, not in facts. Writers who rank slides first pick Blizzard Beach; writers who rank theming and the wave pool first pick Typhoon Lagoon.

One magazine gives Blizzard Beach the under-fives, on the strength of Tike's Peak and the gentler Melt-Away Bay.⁶ It gives teenagers to Blizzard Beach too, on the strength of the slides, and calls adults a tie.

One planning site singles out Ski Patrol Training Camp as the thing Blizzard Beach has and its rival does not.⁷ It is a ropes course and zip line, built for the age band that has outgrown a toddler area and cannot yet reach 48 inches.

Melt-Away Bay is roughly an acre and produces continuous gentle waves, not surf, and inner tubes are allowed in it. That is the opposite trade from Typhoon Lagoon's surf pool, and which one is better depends entirely on whether you want to bob or to be knocked over.

For most of the rest of 2026 this comparison is academic: Typhoon Lagoon is closed and Blizzard Beach is the water park.

What we can and cannot tell you about Blizzard Beach

Nobody on this site has been to Blizzard Beach, and this page says so instead of writing around it. Everything above comes from Disney's published information and from named outlets, each dated and tiered below, plus our own status and hours record where we have one. There is no slide ranking here and no verdict on the cabanas.

The wait times we log for this park come from one feed, not two. Queue-Times lists neither Disney water park, so a posted wait here is reported, not corroborated. Our published source-agreement figure excludes single-source attractions instead of counting them, so the headline claim stays literally true. A reader looking at a number on this park still deserves to be told the difference.

And both parks only entered the ingestion on 7 September 2026. Every poll so far has landed after closing, so what we hold today is status and hours — not one posted wait time.

One more disagreement worth leaving visible instead of resolving. Published park sizes do not agree — Blizzard Beach is given as 66 acres consistently, while Typhoon Lagoon appears as 61 acres in one outlet and 56 in others. Nothing on this page depends on it, and we are not going to launder a number we cannot check into a comparison that looks precise.
