Disney World buses: how often they run, where they stop, and the 2026 changes

When do Disney World buses run, and how often?

Theme park buses run from 45 minutes before a park opens to an hour after it closes, Disney says, and they serve every Disney resort for free. Disney publishes no frequency at all: its own pages say only that buses "run continuously" and that a ride arrives "often within minutes".

The outlets fill the gap with a range. WDW Prep School says to plan on a bus about every 20 minutes, and if one is full, 15 to 20 minutes for the next. TouringPlans puts it at every 5 to 30 minutes, and warns that each change of vehicle can add up to about 20 minutes.

The start time is disputed. Disney says 45 minutes before opening; Disney Tourist Blog says about two hours. Plan on Disney's figure. For a morning bus, the My Disney Experience app shows live times for your resort's stop once you have arrived at the resort.

Where do the buses stop at each park?

Close to the gate at every park, which is the buses' one clear advantage over driving:

There is no bus from a theme park to Disney Springs. Disney says so outright. Ride to a resort first, or take a rideshare.

How do you get from one Disney resort to another?

Disney runs no direct resort-to-resort bus. Its advice is to tap "Get Directions" in the My Disney Experience app, because the quickest route may combine a bus, a monorail, a boat and a walk. In practice that means riding to a park, or to Disney Springs, and changing.

Disney Springs now checks. From 28 June 2026, the buses from Disney Springs to the resort hotels carry only guests staying at a Disney resort, or visiting one with a dining or experience reservation, who may board up to 2 hours before it. Disney has said the rule is permanent. It applies to the Sassagoula River Cruise boats too.

Which resorts share a bus, and which have several stops?

Most resorts have their own bus to each park. The exceptions share one, which adds a stop to every trip. As of August 2026:

The big moderates stop several times inside the resort before leaving: Caribbean Beach has eight stops by one count and seven by another, Coronado Springs four, Old Key West five, Port Orleans Riverside four and Saratoga Springs five.

What changed on the buses in 2026?

Roadworks around Magic Kingdom rearranged the resort buses there. The Polynesian Village opened a new bus loop on 13 July 2026, and the intersection of Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way closed permanently. Since then the Polynesian shares with the Contemporary and Fort Wilderness with Wilderness Lodge, and cast members say the pairings are the same at all four parks.

A road closure also detours the Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge bus via the Outpost. Resorts Gal timed one trip from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom at 22 minutes against the usual 12, and a driver told it the detour may last until next summer.¹¹

Coming up: the Skyliner closes from 24 to 30 January 2027 for refurbishment, and Disney says buses will cover it.

How do you get around Fort Wilderness?

Fort Wilderness is a campground and cabin resort spread through the woods, and it runs its own buses. Disney says internal buses take guests from the cabins and campsites to the Settlement, for the dinner show, groceries and the beach, and to the Meadow, while buses to the parks, water parks and Disney Springs leave from the Outpost Depot.

WDW Prep School names three internal lines, Purple, Orange and Yellow, all stopping at the Outpost.

To Magic Kingdom, take the boat. Disney runs launches across the Seven Seas Lagoon. Resorts Gal says the green-flag boat runs from half an hour before opening to an hour after closing; Pixie Packing, in 2024, said about 1.5 hours after. A blue-flag boat loops to the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge from 3pm to 10:45pm.

A golf cart is the local alternative. Disney rents them for $75 to $100 a day, tax included, collected at 1pm and back by 11am, and bans third-party rental companies. DVC Fan's 2024 figures were lower, $70 for four seats and $90 for six. The walk from the Outpost to the Settlement takes 20 to 25 minutes.

How do you get to the water parks by bus?

Neither water park is on a direct route from most resorts. For Typhoon Lagoon, take a bus to Disney Springs and change; the connecting bus starts about 30 minutes before the park opens and ends about 60 minutes after it closes. For Blizzard Beach, change at Animal Kingdom, except from Coronado Springs and the All-Star resorts, which have direct buses.

In summer Disney adds direct buses: from 26 May to 8 September 2026, the two Port Orleans resorts ran straight to Typhoon Lagoon, and Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach and Pop Century straight to Blizzard Beach. Check that the park is open first: Disney rotates the water parks through closures, and our water park pages carry the current hours.

Is Uber, Lyft or a taxi better than the bus?

For a short hop, often. Outlets put a rideshare within Walt Disney World at $10 to $25, and MouseSavers says even the longest taxi trip on property should seldom pass $35 with the tip. Two rules limit it.

At Magic Kingdom, rideshares drop at the Transportation and Ticket Center, and you still take the monorail or ferry; only Disney buses and Minnie Vans reach the gate. And resort security has required a hotel or dining reservation for a rideshare to drive in.

Disney publishes rideshare points only for Disney Springs: the Marketplace Loop and the West Side Bus and Rideshare Loop. At the other parks the outlets and Lyft's own driver notes give different spots, because they move; the app's pin is the one to trust. The cabs on property are all Mears-operated, and Disney points to taxis outside bus hours.

Minnie Vans are Disney's own paid rides, booked through Lyft. They now price by distance, typically $40 to $70, often more than three times a basic Lyft, and they can drop at Magic Kingdom's gate.

How do wheelchairs and ECVs board a Disney bus?

By lift or ramp at the middle door. Disney says every bus route has buses equipped for wheelchairs and ECVs, that most buses hold up to 2 mobility devices, and that the device must fit the lift without being forced. It recommends ECV users transfer to a seat.

Guests with canes or walkers can use the rear door, and should tell the driver before boarding.

Two things Disney does not say, and outlets do: that mobility-device users board first and leave last, and that newer buses take three. Disney ordered 90 new buses in 2024 with room for three, DVC Shop reported. Our wheelchair and ECV guide covers every other vehicle.

What can you not take on a Disney bus?

Luggage and alcohol, of any kind, Disney says. Strollers must be folded and stowed out of the aisle before you board; a medical stroller for a guest with a disability is treated as a wheelchair.

One trap: an old Disney page for paid park-to-park express buses is still online. That service ended in August 2017.
