What are the three monorail lines, and where do they stop?

Disney runs three separate lines, all meeting at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), the hub beside Magic Kingdom's parking lot:

The stops and hours are Disney's own. The monorail is free and needs no park ticket, so anyone can ride it between the resorts and the TTC. Glass containers are not allowed on board, and Disney treats medical strollers as wheelchairs.

How do you get from EPCOT to Magic Kingdom on the monorail?

Take the EPCOT monorail to the TTC, walk across the platform, and board the Express monorail to Magic Kingdom; reverse it to go back. Resorts Gal, updated in April 2026, times the EPCOT leg at 11 minutes and says you stay inside the secure area throughout, so there is no second bag check at Magic Kingdom.

The ferry from the TTC is the alternative for the second leg; Resorts Gal allows about 15 minutes to board, cross and dock, with boats about every 10 minutes. The TTC has been under refurbishment since August 2025.⁶

Which Disney hotels are on the monorail, and can you walk instead?

Three: the Contemporary, the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian Village, on the Resort line. Disney notes that guests of those three can reach all monorail lines from their hotel. Our hotel tiers guide covers what that convenience costs.

Each also has a walking route. Contemporary guests can walk to Magic Kingdom in about ten minutes.⁸ A walkway from the Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom opened in November 2020, MickeyBlog reported, and a second path linking the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian opened in December 2024. On a busy evening the walk can beat the wait for a Resort train.

How old are Disney World's monorails, and do they break down?

Old, and occasionally. The current Mark VI trains entered service in 1989; Wikipedia counts 12 of them on 14.7 miles of beam. They are around 37 years old in 2026, beyond a typical 20-to-30-year life for transit vehicles, and that Disney has announced no replacement.

Two incidents made news recently.

On 23 November 2025 an electrical fire on Monorail Silver shut the system for most of the day; guests were evacuated with no injuries, and the Resort line running again by 4:25 p.m.⁹ On 4 April 2026 Monorail Teal lost power on the EPCOT line, and guests removed windows for air during the wait of about an hour before it was towed back, WDW News Today reported; buses replaced the EPCOT line meanwhile.

Can you ride in the front of the Disney monorail?

Not any more. Guests used to be invited to ride up front with the pilot, but Disney stopped that after the July 2009 collision on the EPCOT beam, Wikipedia records. In that accident, the National Transportation Safety Board found, one monorail was reversed through a misaligned switch-beam into another; its operator was killed and the passengers were not injured.

The NTSB faulted the switch operator and the monorail manager, and Disney's lack of standard procedures for reversing trains.

What should you do if the monorail is down?

Use the alternatives Disney itself falls back on. Between the TTC and Magic Kingdom, the ferry runs from an hour before opening to an hour after close, Resorts Gal says. From the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian you can walk.

Between EPCOT and the TTC, Disney ran buses during the April 2026 breakdown. And from EPCOT to Magic Kingdom, Resorts Gal's other quick route is the bus from the Beach Club, about 23 minutes, reached by walking from EPCOT's International Gateway.
