Planning a Disney World holiday from the UK — tickets, flights, the ESTA and the money

Which tickets should you buy from the UK?

Disney sells two tickets in the UK that Americans cannot buy: the 7-Day and 14-Day Magic Tickets, which replaced the old Ultimate Tickets. Both cover all four theme parks, both water parks, mini golf and ESPN Wide World of Sports, and both are valid for 14 days from first use, according to MouseSavers' page updated on 27 August 2026.

The gap between them is the point. For 2026 arrivals a 7-Day Magic Ticket costs £523 to £706 for an adult, and a 14-Day £546 to £738 — about £23 more for twice the days. For 2027 the 14-Day is £548 to £704.

Children's tickets, for ages 3 to 9, are a little less. Adult Magic Tickets for arrivals through 2027 include Memory Maker.

The 7-Day is essentially a US 7-day ticket with Park Hopper Plus, so check the dollar price on our ticket page against the exchange rate before you buy.¹ Buy before you fly: they are not sold at the gate.

Which airport, and which airline?

Fly into Orlando International (MCO). It is the airport the direct UK flights use: British Airways from Gatwick and Heathrow, Virgin Atlantic from Heathrow and Manchester, and Norse Atlantic from Gatwick, according to FloridaPlanner's 2026 airline guide. Aer Lingus flies from Dublin, and ended its Manchester route at the end of March 2026.

TUI is the exception. It moved its Central Florida flights from Orlando Sanford to Orlando Melbourne International from 2022, as Orlando Weekly and The Points Guy reported when it was announced; some 2026 guides still say Sanford. Check the transfer to Disney before you book a TUI package.

Do you need an ESTA?

British citizens visit the US without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program, but every traveller, children included, needs an approved ESTA before flying. The fee rose from $21 to $40 on 30 September 2025, according to the US Embassy in London. Apply on the official ESTA website; the embassy warns about sites charging more.

An ESTA is generally valid for two years, or until the passport expires if that comes first, and covers multiple trips. It needs an electronic passport with a chip. Only passports showing British citizenship qualify — a British National (Overseas) passport, for example, does not.

When should you go from the UK?

The UK summer holidays land on Florida's hottest, wettest weeks and the middle of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from 1 June to 30 November, according to the US National Hurricane Center.

How do you get from the airport to your hotel?

Disney's free airport coach, Magical Express, ended in January 2022.

The shared coach that replaced it is Mears Connect, and its own price list has three fares, because the trip from the airport carries a $1.60 airport fee that the trip back does not: $17.60 from the airport to your resort, $16.00 back, $33.60 round trip for ages 10 and up, and $14.30, $13.00 and $27.30 for ages 3 to 9. Under-3s ride free.

A 3% fuel surcharge is added at checkout on the fare before the airport fee, so a round trip for two adults comes to about $69. Mears Express is $250 round trip for up to four people; it is still a shared coach, but your hotel is the first stop.

We got this wrong twice, and the second time was a correction. On 21 September 2026 this page announced that $17.60 and $33.60 were wrong and replaced them with $16. They were right: $16 is only the fare back to the airport, and the difference is the airport fee on Mears's own price list, which we had read without its first line.

How do tax and tipping work?

American prices are shown before sales tax, which is added at the till. Our ticket page quotes Disney's ticket prices with the 6.5% tax included, because Disney's own do not.

Tipping is the bigger surprise. Mickey From The UK puts the norm at table-service restaurants at 18 to 22%, and parties of six or more have 18% added automatically — so check the bill before tipping twice. The same guide suggests $1 to $3 a drink at a bar.

The Disney Dining Plan does not include gratuities, Disney says, so budget for them even if your meals are prepaid; our dining plan page works out whether the plan pays.

The deadlines that are the same for everyone

Dining reservations open 60 days ahead at 6am Eastern — 11am in the UK for most of the year. Stay at a Disney hotel and day 60 before arrival books your whole stay; our dining reservations page works out the date.

Lightning Lane passes can be bought up to seven days before a Disney hotel stay and three days before a park visit for everyone else, Disney says.

A UK package often bundles the Magic Ticket with a Disney hotel, and Disney's UK offers change through the year. Compare the package price with booking the room and tickets separately before you commit.
