Staying on site or off site at Disney World: what each really costs, and which perks you lose

Is it cheaper to stay off site at Disney World?

Not at the bottom of the market, once the fees are added. Disney's cheapest room, at All-Star Sports, is $149 a night in its cheapest 2026 season with the 13.5% tax already in it.

The cheapest Disney Springs hotel room we found, at the Hilton Buena Vista Palace, is advertised from about $95, and a $39 nightly resort fee and 12.5% tax take it to about $151.

Orlando's average hotel night was $167.88 in the first two weeks of September 2026, Visit Orlando reports, before tax and before any resort fee. Disney includes theme park parking for its own hotel guests; everyone else pays $35 a day to park at a park.

What does five nights cost, on site and off?

A family of four in one room, five nights, four park days, driving to the parks from an off-site hotel. Each rate is the lowest that hotel advertises, so the seasons are not the same nights: treat the rows as the floor of each option, not a quote.

The Palace's self-parking is free, WDWInfo reports, which is why it is the fair comparison: the Hilton Lake Buena Vista next door adds a $46 resort fee and $38 a night to park.

What does staying at a Disney hotel get you?

Four things with a cash or time value, each on Disney's own pages. Early Entry: the parks open 30 minutes early for you every day, check-in and check-out days included. Lightning Lane: you can buy passes 7 days before your stay starts, for the whole stay, where everyone else buys 3 days before each park day.

Parking: overnight self-parking and standard theme park parking are both free. Extended Evening Hours, at Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts only, on select nights.

For arrivals in summer 2027, Disney adds water park admission on check-in day.

Which off-site hotels get the same perks?

Fewer than most guides imply, and the lists are not the same. Disney's own pages, read 24 September 2026:

The Disney Springs hotels are the trap: they are sold as Official Walt Disney World Hotels with Early Entry, and they are, but their guests buy Lightning Lane on the same 3-day window as a hotel on International Drive.

When does the 7-day Lightning Lane window matter?

When a pass sells out. Disney sells Single Pass rides like TRON and Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Multi Pass for the most popular rides, in limited numbers; a 7-day window means a Disney hotel guest has had four days to buy before an off-site guest can start. On a trip to see the headline rides, that is the perk most worth paying for.

For a slower trip, or one built around the parks' quieter rides, it matters far less.

When does staying off site make sense?

When you need space. Disney's rooms sleep four or five, and a family of six is into a family suite or a villa. Disney Tourist Blog (November 2025) finds off-site hotels cheaper room for room, a Disney deluxe at $500 or more having an off-site analogue near $250, while noting the on-site room buys the transport, parking and Early Entry.

WDW Prep School (January 2026) reaches the same verdict from the other side: a Disney value resort often wins on total cost against a moderate off-site hotel once the car, parking and resort fees are added.

Why do other guides give different fees?

Because some are out of date. TouringPlans' resort pages, read 24 September 2026, still charge Disney hotel guests to park overnight, $25 a night at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and price the refillable mug at $19. Disney's parking page says overnight self-parking is free for its hotel guests, and its menus price the mug at $22.99.

We follow Disney on both, and say so, because a fee that ended is the easiest way to get this comparison wrong.
