What goes in every Disney World park bag?

We compared four packing lists published in 2026, by Disney Food Blog (January), DisMornings (March), Theme Park Shark (June) and Main Street Magic (July). These are the items they agree on, and what backs each one up:

Main Street Magic's summary is that the list exists to prevent the three commonest trip-ruiners: blisters, sunburn and a dead phone.

What should you pack for each month?

Pack for the month, because Disney World's weather swings more than its reputation. From our own daily weather record for the resort, twelve years of it:

So: from December to February, add a jacket or hoodie for the evenings, when lows sit in the 50s. From May to September, add a cooling towel, a spare shirt and electrolytes, which DisMornings lists for summer.

Rain gear matters most from June to September, but most of that rain is a short shower rather than a wet day: in August rain falls on 94% of days, and only 47% get a quarter of an inch or more.

What does Disney not allow in the parks?

Disney's property rules are the list to check, and several common packing ideas are on it:

• Bags and coolers larger than 24 by 15 by 18 inches, and no loose or dry ice in them; Disney recommends reusable ice packs.
• Glass containers, except small ones such as baby food jars.
• Wagons, stroller wagons, and strollers wider than 31 inches or longer than 52 inches.
• Folding chairs, in any park or at Disney Springs.
• Selfie sticks and other hand-held extension poles, and drones.
• Large misting fans; a personal handheld misting fan is fine.
• Costumes for anyone 14 or older.
• At Animal Kingdom and the water parks, balloons and plastic straws; at the water parks, any flotation device that is not Coast Guard approved.

Every bag is screened at the entrance, so a smaller bag also means a quicker security line.

Should you bring an umbrella or a poncho?

The lists disagree. Disney Food Blog's family list includes a travel umbrella; Main Street Magic's says to leave full-size umbrellas at home. Our weather record explains both: summer rain is frequent but usually brief, so a poncho handles a queue or a ride and leaves your hands free, while a small umbrella is better for walking between lands in a downpour.

Disney's rules ban neither. A poncho fits in a park bag in a way an umbrella does not, which is why all four lists include rain gear and only one an umbrella.

What can you leave at home?

New shoes, which DisMornings and Main Street Magic both warn against. Denim as your main trousers, on DisMornings' list, in a climate where July averages an 89°F high. More than two outfits a day each, says Main Street Magic, since a mid-trip laundry run weighs less.

Who needs to pack more?

Families with small children, who add a stroller fan, a change of clothes in a zip-top bag and an autograph book.⁸ One planning site suggests renting a stroller rather than packing one if luggage is tight.⁵ Anyone visiting the water parks, who needs Coast Guard-approved flotation for a child who cannot swim, under Disney's rules.

And anyone who might need medicine: Main Street Magic and DisMornings both list the basics, pain relief, antacids and motion-sickness tablets, to bring from home.
