We haven’t timed this resort yet. A door-to-gate time goes here once we have walked the route with a stopwatch at least five times — a single reading hides the variation that actually makes people miss a breakfast reservation. How we measure.

Who it’s right for
Trips where the hotel is part of the point rather than a place to sleep. Families wanting a genuine water-park-scale pool complex and a supervised kids' club. Anyone with a car, which removes the transport objection entirely. Multi-generational groups, where 500-square-foot rooms and 1,000-square-foot suites beat two Disney rooms. And anyone mixing work with a trip, where nothing else on property comes close.
Who it’s wrong for
Park-intensive trips without a car, where every gate is a scheduled coach ride. First-time visitors who want the Disney bubble — this is a luxury hotel with Disney benefits, not a Disney resort. Anyone counting on the Disney Dining Plan, which does not apply. And anyone on a budget, since the entry price is above most Disney deluxes before you eat anything.
Is it worth the money?
If you are choosing between this and a Disney deluxe, the room comparison is not close. 500 square feet with a marble bathroom and a balcony, from around $721, against the Grand Floridian's 400 square feet from $816. On space, service and food, the Four Seasons wins comfortably.
What you give up is everything that makes a Disney resort a Disney resort. No monorail, no boat, no walking to a park, no themed lobby, no Disney Dining Plan, and a ten-to-twenty-minute coach ride to every gate. Early theme park entry and free coach transport soften that; they do not remove it.
So it comes down to what the hotel is for. If it is a base for long park days with young children, a Disney deluxe on the monorail does more. If the hotel is part of the holiday — a spa day, a lazy river, dinner at Capa, a balcony to come back to — this is the best hotel on Walt Disney World land and the only one with five stars.

What the rooms are actually like
Every room is 500 square feet with a furnished balcony and a full marble bathroom, sleeping three adults or two adults and two children. That is larger than the standard room at any Disney-owned resort — bigger than the Grand Floridian's 400 and the Contemporary's 394 — and Four Seasons claims they are the largest standard hotel rooms in Orlando.
The balcony is the thing worth paying attention to at booking. The building is seventeen storeys and rooms face the Golden Oak community, the lake, the pool, or the parks; a park-view room sees the Magic Kingdom fireworks, and from high floors EPCOT's as well. Suites start around 1,000 square feet.

Which room should you request?
In Golden Oak, the residential enclave on the north-east corner of Walt Disney World, on 26.5 acres with a golf course. It is on Disney land and it does not feel like it — this is a quiet luxury resort that happens to have a theme park ten minutes away.
That distance is the trade. Nothing is walkable: Magic Kingdom is about ten minutes by road, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios fifteen, Animal Kingdom twenty. There is complimentary scheduled coach service to all four parks and a shuttle to Disney Springs, and no boat, monorail or Skyliner.

What has changed recently?
Opened in August 2014 with 443 rooms — 375 guest rooms and 68 suites — and has not been substantially rebuilt. The Disney-facing side has grown rather than shrunk: the Disney Planning Center, the twice-weekly character breakfast at Ravello, complimentary coach transport and 30-minute early theme park entry are all current. Benefit packages at non-Disney hotels do change, so confirm early entry and Extended Evening Hours eligibility when you book.

The best on Disney land for it and not a close call. 500-square-foot rooms with a desk and a balcony, a business-grade property with meeting space, a 17-storey building with quiet floors, and several places to sit and work — the Lobby Bar, Lickety Split, and the golf clubhouse. What you lose is spontaneity: there is no walking to a park for an hour, so a working day here is a working day.
