Transfer required. Not suitable for anyone with back or neck problems — the ride is rough and the backwards section is unpredictable.

What it’s actually like

Fast, with real drops and sustained speed. A long section runs backwards in total darkness, which is the element that catches people out — it is not signposted and it is disorienting. No inversions. Rough in places for a ride of its age.

How tall do you have to be for Expedition Everest?

44 inches, the same as Avatar Flight of Passage — so at Animal Kingdom the two headline attractions share a line, and a 42-inch child rides neither.

Does Expedition Everest go backwards?

Yes, and this is the part that catches people out rather than the speed. A long section runs backwards in total darkness, it is not signposted, and it surprises riders who came prepared for a coaster but not for that.

Is Expedition Everest worth a Lightning Lane?

Usually not. It averaged 18 minutes in 2025–26 — the shortest of the five Lightning Lane rides at Animal Kingdom — so a Multi Pass slot spent here saves very little. Kilimanjaro Safaris, Kali River Rapids and Na'vi River Journey are all better uses.

Is there a single rider queue on Expedition Everest?

Not according to Disney, and this page used to say otherwise. Disney’s single rider page lists five attractions and Expedition Everest is not one of them, and Disney’s own page for the ride does not mention a single rider queue either. Its attraction finder still carries a single-rider tag, so Disney disagrees with itself — but two of its three surfaces say no, so do not build a plan on it.
