Any time. This is one of the few headline attractions where the posted wait overstates the real one, because the ride loads continuously — a posted 40 minutes usually walks in closer to 20. Spend a Lightning Lane selection on something that does not move.

How the queue has changed

Its average posted wait was 34 minutes in 2017 and 26 in 2025–26 — down 24%. That is the 8th-longest average queue of the 31 attractions Queue-Times tracks at Magic Kingdom.

What boarding is like

Transfer to the moving Doom Buggy is required; the loading belt slows but does not stop unless asked. Ask a cast member — they will stop it, and nobody minds.

What it’s actually like

Slow throughout, with no drops. Dark, with sudden loud noises and a handful of moments designed to startle, not frighten. The stretching room before boarding is the difficult part for small children: enclosed, dark, and with no visible way out.

Common questions

Does the posted wait for the Haunted Mansion overstate the real one?

Usually, because the ride loads continuously rather than in batches. Our own record over 5,642 readings from 5 to 17 September 2026 gives a median posted wait of 15 minutes and a peak of 25 at noon, and the walked queue typically comes in well under the number on the board.

Is the Haunted Mansion scary for children?

It is atmospheric rather than frightening — no drops, nothing that jumps out, and the humour is closer to a pantomime than a horror film. The part that upsets children is the stretching room before boarding: dark, enclosed, and with no way out once the doors close.

How long is the Haunted Mansion ride?

About nine minutes including the stretching room, which makes it one of the longest rides at Magic Kingdom and one of the few places to sit down indoors for that long.

Is there a height requirement for the Haunted Mansion?

None. Any child who will sit still for nine minutes in the dark can ride.
