Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point: what is included, the long pier, and how it compares with Castaway Cay

What is included at Lookout Cay?

Most of the day. Disney's own list, as the DCL Guide and We On Cruise both summarise it:

• Family Beach and the adults-only Serenity Bay, with chairs, umbrellas and towels — The four bars
• True-True BBQ, and Serenity Bay BBQ for adults — Sandsational Smoothies and Mangos & Go coffee and Dole Whip
• Soft-serve and drink stations — Snorkel gear, life jackets, wagons
• Sebastian's Cove splash pad and Rush Out Gush Out water play, with two corkscrew slides — Family and Serenity Bay cabanas
• Character meets, the Beach Bash and RUSH! Junkanoo — Port Adventures and the shops
• The Goombay Cultural Center and the lighthouse nature trail

Disney's general FAQ confirms a private-island day with a free barbecue lunch, drinks and beach activities on most Bahamian and Caribbean sailings. Guests 18 and over need a government photo ID or passport to go ashore and to get back on the ship, according to the DCL Guide's reading of Disney's rules.

How long is the walk from the ship at Lookout Cay?

About half a mile, along a pier with no shade. It at 10 to 15 minutes to Mabrika Cove, the arrival area; its writer takes 10 to 14 minutes with photo stops, and carries a UV umbrella.⁴ The pier is long because Disney avoided dredging the reef, so the ship docks in deep water rather than sending guests ashore by tender.

From Mabrika Cove a tram takes about 10 minutes to the main beaches and the Goombay Cultural Center. Disney runs an accessible cart shuttle along the pier for guests with disabilities, first come, first served, and the tram takes personal and electric wheelchairs but not sand wheelchairs.

EverythingMouse's advice is to stay on the island once you arrive, since a mid-day trip back to the ship can take close to an hour.

What did we find at Lookout Cay?

We have been twice, on the Disney Wish in April 2026 and on a Disney Fantasy sailing later that spring, and a few things are worth knowing that the planning guides skip.

The walk is fine if you pace it. Timed at a leisurely pace with photo stops, the pier took Melissa about 15 minutes. Keep to the left: the right-hand lane is for the carts. There is a water station and a photo spot at the halfway point, and cast members hand out cold towels at the end.

Wear trainers and carry flip-flops for the beach.

The tram is short. From Mabrika Cove it felt like five or six minutes to the Goombay stop, quicker than EverythingMouse's ten; either way, it is not the walk that costs the time.

Junkanoo is the highlight. The RUSH! celebration at the Goombay Cultural Center, with the band, costumes and a parade you join, was Melissa's favourite part of the day. True-True BBQ and True-True Too serve the same menu, so eat at whichever is nearer. The far end of the family beach, past the Reef & Wreck bar, is the quietest, and lifeguards cover the main beach.

How does Lookout Cay compare with Castaway Cay?

The water is the main difference. Castaway Cay has a breakwater and a calm lagoon; Lookout Cay's beaches face open ocean, which EverythingMouse and Dixie Delights both say makes swimming more changeable. The sources disagree on floats: the DCL Guide lists float rentals among the paid extras, while Dixie Delights says floats are not offered because they would drift away.

Check on the day.

The feel is different too. Disney built Lookout Cay with Bahamian artists and cultural ambassadors, and the Goombay Cultural Center and Junkanoo shows are the point of it. Wandering in Disney found it less themed and less Disney than some expect; Dixie Delights calls it a gorgeous beach day with Bahamian flair, and prefers its Serenity Bay to Castaway Cay's.

Time ashore is similar. Wandering in Disney puts it at roughly seven hours, going ashore between 8 and 9 AM and back between 3:30 and 5 PM. Our Castaway Cay page measures that island from ship positions.

Should you book a cabana at Lookout Cay?

Only if you would use it all day. EverythingMouse counts 20 family cabanas at Mabrika Cove, four of them doubles, and six adult cabanas at Serenity Bay. They open for booking with your activity window, 75 days out for a first cruise, and Disney does not publish a price list outside the booking flow, so We On Cruise rightly warns against trusting older price tables.

Dixie Delights, who booked a Serenity Bay cabana on both visits, calls it the highlight of the day. The trade-off is location: the family cabanas sit at Mabrika Cove by the tram stop, not on the main family beach.

Which Disney cruises stop at Lookout Cay?

Bahamian and Caribbean sailings from Florida, on several ships. EverythingMouse lists the Magic, Fantasy, Wish and Dream, and Disney Parks Blog says some summer 2027 Dream and Destiny itineraries visit both Lookout Cay and Castaway Cay, which lie 132 miles apart. Check the itinerary for your sailing; not every Bahamas cruise includes it.
