Nassau on a Disney cruise: the cruise port, what you can walk to, getting to Atlantis, and staying safe

What is the Nassau cruise port like?

New, and busy. The rebuilt port opened in May 2023 after a redevelopment of about $300 million, adding a sixth berth, a new terminal, the Bahamas Museum of Junkanoo, a 3,500-seat amphitheatre, a living coral exhibit and local shops, PAX reported at the opening.

It can be crowded. On 8 June 2026 it handled a record 33,254 passengers from six ships in one day, Caribbean Journal reported.

The port's own FAQ has the practical points: free Wi-Fi at the port, US dollars accepted at par with Bahamian dollars, some cash worth carrying, and a customary 15% tip for waiters and taxi drivers, often already added to the bill.

How long do you get in Nassau on a Disney cruise?

About eight hours. On the Disney Wish's three-night Bahamian cruise of 4 September 2026, the Personal Navigator for the Nassau day gave guests ashore at 9:30 a.m. and all guests on board at 5:30 p.m., the Disney Cruise Line Blog's copy shows.

On the Wish's three-night sailings Nassau is usually the first stop, the day before Castaway Cay. Times vary by ship and date, so check the Navigator app for yours, and treat the all-aboard time as final: the ship will not wait.

How long do Disney ships actually stay in Nassau?

Those windows run from the first stationary position to the last, so they include berthing and are a little wider than the time the gangway is open. The Wish, on its three- and four-night sailings, has the shortest day of the three, which fits the 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. its September 2026 Navigator gave. The Fantasy appears once in the record.

What can you walk to from the Nassau cruise port?

Most of historic Nassau. The port opens straight onto Bay Street.

Walking times are Port for the Day's; the Junkanoo museum is on the port's own FAQ. Cover up from the beach: the port asks visitors not to walk the streets or enter restaurants in swimwear.

How do you get from the Nassau cruise port to Atlantis?

Three ways, according to Atlantis's own page for day visitors. A taxi over the bridge to Paradise Island takes 10 to 20 minutes, and many drivers want cash. A ferry leaves the Ferry Terminal at Nassau Cruise Port every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to noon.

Water taxis also cross the harbour in about ten minutes.

You need a day pass to use Atlantis's pools and beaches, and Atlantis says prices vary by date and season, so price your day before the cruise. Show the pass confirmation at the Atlantis Adventures Tour Center to get your wristband.

Is Nassau safe for Disney cruise passengers?

With ordinary care, yes, and with a few specific cautions. The US State Department renewed its Bahamas advisory on 28 July 2026 at Level 2, exercise increased caution, the same level as since January 2024, according to Newsweek and a travel adviser's summary.

The advisory tells visitors to stay alert in Nassau's Over the Hill area, south of Shirley Street, and warns that boating is poorly regulated, with reports of assaults by jet ski operators; US government staff may not rent jet skis from independent operators on New Providence or Paradise Island.

The port's advice matches: use only licensed taxis and watercraft, book excursions through your cruise line or a trusted operator, and remember marijuana is illegal. The port also says the Royal Bahamas Police Force keeps a strong presence at the port and downtown.

Leave camouflage clothing at home, children's included. The Bahamas is one of nine Caribbean countries that ban it, Islands reports, and Carnival's brand ambassador names the Bahamas among the ports where it is not allowed, TheTravel reported in June 2026.
