How does tendering work at Grand Cayman on a Disney cruise?

George Town has no cruise berth, so ships anchor offshore and local tenders carry guests to the waterfront. The boats Disney hires hold 200 to 300 people and board from Deck 1, a planDisney panelist wrote in March 2023.

On the Disney Treasure, Travelling With Nikki waited in the Walt Disney Theatre, where tender tickets were handed out, and the ride took about ten minutes each way.

Guests on Disney Port Adventures may get the first tenders, another planDisney panelist wrote in May 2025. Once "open tenders" are announced, tickets are no longer needed and the waits shorten, the 2023 answer says. Small boats move far more than the ship, so anyone prone to seasickness should check the water from the ship's rail before heading down.

Tenders land at one of three terminals on Harbour Drive: Royal Watler, the largest, and the smaller North and South terminals, about 500 feet apart.⁵ Nikki's tender landed at Royal Watler.

What can you walk to from the George Town tender pier?

The duty-free shops and the Cayman Islands National Museum are under five minutes' walk from the tender landing, Daily.ky says. The museum fills the Old Courts Building, Cayman's oldest standing public building, and charges visitors $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and children aged 6 to 12; under-6s go free.

The museum's opening hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Nikki walked back to the port past Heroes Square, the public library and the Elmslie Memorial United Church. Seven Mile Beach starts about 2.8 miles north, Cruise Hive says, which is a long walk in the heat, and Camana Bay is a CI$15 to CI$20 taxi ride, per Daily.ky.

How do you get to Seven Mile Beach from the Disney tender?

By taxi or bus. Taxis run on regulated fares, not meters: Daily.ky, citing the 2019 traffic regulations, puts Seven Mile Beach at CI$20, about US$25, per taxi for up to four. The Traveler quotes $10 to $15 per person on shared vans, so ask whether a fare is per person or per vehicle before you get in.

The public bus is the cheap way: CI$2, or US$2.50, a ride from the depot a few minutes inland near the public library, Daily.ky and The Traveler agree. Routes WB1 and WB2 run along Seven Mile Beach. Daily.ky warns there is no bus on Sundays or public holidays.

Public access points open onto the beach from West Bay Road about every quarter mile, and Daily.ky finds the middle and northern stretches calmer than the resort-lined south.

What are the best things to do in Grand Cayman on a Disney cruise?

Stingray City and the Sandbar, in the North Sound, are the only two places you may interact with the rays. Both are Wildlife Interaction Zones, every commercial operator needs a Department of Environment permit each year, and the Department's handling rules are enforceable under the National Conservation Act. The Sandbar sits in 2 to 3 feet of water, Daily.ky says.

Starfish are protected in Cayman waters. At Starfish Point the Department recommends looking without touching, and tolerates only the gentle handling its guidance notes allow, at that one spot. Swimming in the Turtle Centre's saltwater lagoon, with the turtles, ends at 2:30 p.m. daily, the centre says.

Should you book a Disney Port Adventure in Grand Cayman?

On a tender port the case is stronger than usual. Disney-booked guests may get the first tenders, and if a Disney excursion runs late, Disney waits or gets you to the next port, a planDisney panelist wrote in November 2023. In the May 2025 answer, a panelist describes being the very last guest back aboard the Disney Magic after the day's final undersea tour.

Independent Stingray City boats leave from Safehaven, the Yacht Club and Morgan's Harbour, Daily.ky says. They can cost less, but the timing risk is yours, and the last tender will not wait.

Is Grand Cayman safe, and what money do you need?

The US rates the Cayman Islands Level 1, exercise normal precautions, in an advisory updated on 20 May 2026 that calls the islands generally safe. The advisory warns that medical services may be limited, and that people have been arrested and fined for carrying even one bullet or a spent casing.

US dollars are accepted everywhere at CI$0.80 each, the islands' airport authority says, so a US$20 note counts as CI$16. Change often comes back in Cayman dollars, Daily.ky warns, so ask for US change before you pay. Major cards other than Discover are widely taken.
