Is Falmouth open to Disney cruises after Hurricane Melissa?

Yes. Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 storm on 28 October 2025. Disney dropped Falmouth from the Disney Treasure's 1 November sailing, swapping in a sea day and a visit to Lookout Cay, and removed the Port Adventures guests had pre-booked there, the Disney Cruise Line Blog reported.

The port reopened on 2 December 2025, when the Caribbean Princess became the first ship back, CruiseMapper reports. By 3 June 2026 the Disney Treasure was calling again on its Western Caribbean itinerary, its Personal Navigator shows.

Recovery beyond the port was slower. In December 2025 the Jamaica Observer reported Martha Brae rafting aiming to restart on 15 December once fallen trees were cleared from the river, and the neighbouring Swamp Safari shut for a complete rebuild. We found no dated 2026 update on either, so confirm an excursion is running before booking it independently.

How long do you get in Falmouth on a Disney cruise?

The 2026 Navigator also moved the ship's clocks forward an hour on the Falmouth day. All-aboard runs on ship time, so go by the Navigator rather than a phone that may have picked up a local network.

What is the Falmouth cruise port like?

A gated, purpose-built port that Mouse Hacking describes as basically an outdoor shopping mall, with a market area beyond. Two ships at most can berth, Prof Melissa's port guide says. On the Disney Treasure in summer 2025, Travelling With Nikki found many empty storefronts and the port's Margaritaville gone, though the port was not crowded even with two ships in.

Can you walk into Falmouth town from the cruise port?

You can, and the guides disagree on whether you should. Falmouth's historic district is known for 19th-century Georgian buildings, Wikivoyage notes, around Water Square and the William Knibb Baptist Church, built in 1947 for the abolitionist minister.

Prof Melissa's guide calls the terminal safe and clean but the surrounding town run-down, and advises against walking around outside it. The Wandering Adventurer's May 2026 guide likewise says not to wander beyond the tourist zone and to stick to organised tours. A guided walking tour splits the difference: you see the Georgian town with someone who knows it.

What are the best things to do from Falmouth on a Disney cruise?

Dunn's River Falls is the headline trip, and the long drive is why it needs care. The Wandering Adventurer quotes a taxi at $30 to $40, while Prof Melissa's guide puts it at $100 each way for up to four.

Is Falmouth safe for Disney cruise passengers?

The US rates Jamaica Level 2, exercise increased caution, for crime and health risks, in an advisory updated on 22 June 2026 that also removed its natural-disaster warning. The advisory says tourist areas generally see less violent crime than elsewhere. Its reconsider-travel list names neighbourhoods in several parishes, including parts of St James, the Montego Bay parish, and none in Trelawny, where Falmouth is.

US government staff in Jamaica may not use public buses or drive between cities at night, and the advisory tells visitors to take the same precautions. Basic and specialised medical care may not be available in many parts of the island, and an air ambulance to the US costs about $30,000 at minimum.

Leave camouflage at home, for children too. Jamaica bans civilians from wearing it, and police at Montego Bay sent a 12-year-old Carnival passenger back to the ship for it, TheTravel reported in June 2026.
