Paying for Disney World with credit card points: what they buy, what they cannot, and the arithmetic

What can credit card points pay for on a Disney World trip?

Less than most people hope, and more than nothing. Disney sells its own hotels and tickets, and no hotel loyalty programme can book them. What points do reach is the ring of hotels around Disney that share its perks, and the flight there.

The one card whose rewards spend directly on Disney tickets and Disney hotels is the Disney Visa, which earns Disney Rewards Dollars; our Disney Visa guide does that arithmetic.

How many Marriott points is a night at the Swan and Dolphin?

Between about 45,000 and 85,000 a night, on the most recently updated counts, and the published ranges disagree. Marriott prices awards by demand, so every figure below is a snapshot:

Marriott still charges the resort fee on award nights, which at the Swan and Dolphin is $50 a night plus tax, and parking is $40 a day. The fifth night of an award stay is free.

Whether that is a good trade depends on the cash rate that night. One widely used valuation puts Marriott points at 0.75 cents each in September 2026,²⁰ which makes a 60,000-point night worth $450 of points before the fee. One review puts Swan Reserve cash rates at $220 to $400 a night, so points win mainly at peak prices.¹⁹

What the stay buys is Disney's best set of perks outside a Disney hotel: 30 minutes of early entry every day, Extended Evening Hours, and Lightning Lane purchases 7 days before the stay rather than 3 days before each park day.

Should you move Chase or Amex points to Marriott for a Disney stay?

Usually not, and the one exception ends on 15 October 2026. Chase moves points to Marriott at 1:1, and until then adds a 70% bonus, so 1,000 Chase points become 1,700 Marriott points. A 60,000-point night then costs 35,295 Chase points.

Amex also transfers to Marriott at 1:1. The same valuation puts Chase points at 2.05 cents and Amex points at 2 cents, against 0.75 cents for Marriott's,²⁰ so a transfer without a bonus turns a valuable point into a cheaper one. One Disney points site calls it a poor use of transferred Chase or Amex points for exactly that reason.¹⁷

The exception is topping up. If you are a few thousand Marriott points short of a fifth-night-free booking, a small transfer finishes the job.

Can you use Hilton points near Disney World?

Yes, at five hotels that Disney lists for its 30-minute early entry: Signia by Hilton and Waldorf Astoria Orlando at Bonnet Creek, and Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace, Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista and DoubleTree Suites by Hilton at Disney Springs. None of them gets Extended Evening Hours, and their guests buy Lightning Lane 3 days before each park day.

Hilton's own guide says resort fees are waived on reward stays booked entirely with points, at every membership level, which is worth $50 a night plus tax at Signia. One Hilton-focused guide says the Signia charge still applies on points stays; Hilton's rule says it does not, so check the booking screen.²⁶ Silver members and above get every fifth night free on standard reward stays.

Hilton points are worth less each: the same valuation puts them at 0.4 cents,²⁰ so 60,000 points is about $240 of value. Chase does not transfer to Hilton; Amex does, at 1,000 to 2,000.

What can points not buy at Disney World?

Disney-owned hotels and park tickets, not through any hotel programme. Travel portals are the only route, and the reports disagree. One points site said in April 2025 that some Disney resorts occasionally appear in the Chase Travel portal; another says hotels owned and run by Disney have disappeared from it.

The first adds that tickets bought through the portal usually cost more than buying from Disney.

The workaround people use is Disney gift cards. Disney lists them among the ways to pay for a hotel or package. A Target Circle Card takes 5% off them, and Sam's Club has sold a $200 Disney eGift card for $190.

That is a discount, not a points redemption: you pay with the card, and earn whatever that card earns.

Is a plain cash-back card better than the Disney Inspire Visa?

For most families without the Inspire's credits, yes. The Inspire costs $149 a year and earns 3% at most U.S. Disney locations, in Rewards Dollars that only spend at Disney. A no-fee 2% card pays cash you can spend anywhere.

On $6,000 of Disney spending, the Inspire earns 180 Rewards Dollars, $31 ahead of its fee; a 2% card earns $120 in cash. The extra 1% only covers the fee at $14,900 of Disney spending a year. Which points get you to Orlando?

Flexible points are at their best on the flight. Chase transfers at 1:1 to ten airlines, Southwest, United and JetBlue among them; Amex transfers to Delta at 1:1 and to JetBlue at 250 to 200.

September 2026 valuations run from 1.2 cents for Delta and United miles to 1.35 cents for JetBlue's,²⁰ well above the 0.75 cents a Chase or Amex point becomes when moved to Marriott without a bonus.

A rule of thumb that follows: spend transferable points on the flight, hotel points on the hotel, and cash or gift cards on everything Disney sells itself.
