What does Droid Depot cost at Disney World?

$129.99 per droid, plus tax, read off Disney's own page on 14 September 2026. That buys one astromech you assemble yourself, a remote control, a carry box and the instructions. Park admission is separate.

The extras are where the price climbs, and the outlets do not agree on them. WDW Prep School puts a personality chip at about $15 to $18, and WDW Vacation Tips, updated in May 2026, says $19.99. There is a $197 bundle of droid, backpack and one chip.⁸

The bundle is not a discount. Bought separately, the droid, the $49.99 backpack and a chip come to $194.97 at a $14.99 chip and $199.97 at a $19.99 one. The $197 bundle sits between the two, so it saves at most about $3, and on the lower chip price it costs slightly more.

How has the Droid Depot price changed since 2019?

Up 30% in six years at Disney World, in two steps, and each step is dated below. Disneyland moved later and stays $10 cheaper.

The October 2022 rise comes from the Disney Food Blog's report that Disney's own site had changed; the October 2025 rises at both resorts from the Disney Food Blog and WDW News Today on the day. Disneyland was still at $99.99 in February 2025.

Savi's Workshop rose on both Disney World dates too, and once more in April 2021, from $199.99 at opening to $274.99, which is 37.5%.

Plenty of guides are still quoting the old price. Orlando Informer's page still gives $119.99 and a credit-card guarantee, both superseded, since Disney has required full payment at booking since April 2024. WDW Vacation Tips called $129.99 a recent increase in May 2026, and Ziggy Knows Disney posted it as news in September 2026, eleven months after it happened.

What are Disney's rules for Droid Depot?

Disney publishes the terms in one block on the Droid Depot page. These are the lines that decide a booking, as they read on 14 September 2026.

• Payment — Full payment due at the time of booking
• Cancellation — 24-hour policy; full price charged inside one day, or for a no-show
• The droid itself — Nonrefundable, and not eligible for Annual Passholder or other discounts
• Who builds — Only the builder; the builder's guest may not build a droid
• Who comes in — The builder and one guest
• Party age — At least one person must be 14 or older
• Age guidance — 3 and up
• Same-day — A limited number of same-day reservations, up to 2 hours ahead; walk-ins if the day allows
• Check-in — No earlier than 15 minutes before; everyone present, with photo ID and the booking card
• Driving it — Remote-control use in the parks is prohibited; carry it instead

Two children who both want to build need two bookings: $259.98 before tax. The guest who comes in cannot build, which is the same rule as Savi's Workshop. WDW Vacation Tips says a builder may bring two guests; that is Disneyland's rule, and Disney World's page says one.

The cancellation line is kinder than it first reads. One planning site's report of the April 2024 change, when prepayment began, says a cancellation at least a day ahead carries no fee.⁷ Only a late cancellation or a no-show costs the full price.

How is Disneyland’s Droid Depot different from Disney World’s?

Same shop, same conveyor, different terms. Both columns come from the two resorts' own pages, read on 14 September 2026, except the booking row.

Disney World charges an extra $10, offers two fewer droid types and admits one fewer person. The pattern matches Savi's Workshop, where Florida is also dearer and also admits one fewer guest.

How long does Droid Depot take?

Budget 30 minutes, and read every shorter estimate as the build alone. The sources measure different things. Under 15 minutes from start to finish, not counting any queue.¹¹ Ziggy Knows Disney agrees on under 15 for the build and suggests allowing 30 overall.

Disney's own planDisney panel, answering for Disneyland, says 20 to 30 minutes, and WDW Prep School says 30 to 45.

Parents on the forum put the variable plainly: it depends on how long a child takes to choose parts off the conveyor.¹⁷ An indecisive builder can double it.

Is Droid Depot worth it?

For a child who will play with it at home, usually yes, and that is where most reviewers land. Our own comparison of Disney World's paid add-ons rates it the best value of the three builds: it costs less than half as much as Savi's Workshop and suits younger children, because the build is hands-on rather than ceremonial.

One planning site calls it worth it without hesitation, and a parent on the TouringPlans forum reports the droids still get a lot of use at home.⁹

The strongest dissent comes from Tom Bricker of Disney Tourist Blog, who writes that Droid Depot does not stack up to Savi's Workshop in the least. His point is that the building half of the shop can be watched for free from the retail side, which he thinks is enough of the experience for many people, and that Savi's stays far more in demand.

He also says he built his at a media event, could not keep it, and might feel differently if he had.

The two views are compatible. Droid Depot sells a toy with a short, fun build; Savi's sells a ceremony with a display piece attached. If the droid will live on a shelf, the free look from the shop floor may be all you need.

Who should skip Droid Depot?

First-time visitors short on days. Any build costs half an hour in the middle of a park day plus the money, and a first trip rarely has the time.

Families planning to park hop. The box is about 18 inches tall and the droid weighs about 3.5 pounds, and Disney World's souvenir package pick-up and resort delivery are currently paused. A forum member who built in the morning and then hopped parks regretted carrying it all day.¹⁷

Anyone expecting to drive it around Galaxy's Edge. Disney prohibits remote-control use in the parks. The droid still reacts to the land by Bluetooth while it is carried, and There is a small designated test area near the Coca-Cola stand.⁸

Parents who have not agreed the extras in advance. A forum parent warns that the backpack is presented as if it came with the droid.¹⁷ Settle the chip and backpack question before you walk in.

When should you book Droid Depot, and when should you build?

Book up to 60 days ahead through Disney's site or the My Disney Experience app. Slots are no longer hard to get: a forum member said as much in August 2025, and Disney keeps some same-day slots up to two hours out and takes walk-ins when the day allows.¹⁷

Build late rather than early. The same forum thread's advice, from a travel planner, is to book just after lunch and before a midday break, so the droid goes back to the room instead of round the park.

How do you get a Droid Depot droid home?

In your carry-on if it fits. The droid runs on six AA batteries, according to SaberSourcing, and TSA allows ordinary AA and AAA batteries in both carry-on and checked bags, provided they are protected from damage. SaberSourcing says the remote takes two AA batteries; other guides say AAA, so check yours before you buy spares.

A planDisney panellist measured the box at about 18 inches tall and 11 inches wide, so check it against your airline's limits. The droid comes apart: Disney's own BB-unit sheet shows the body twisting to lock and unlock, and a TouringPlans writer noted in 2019 that an R-unit's legs unscrew with a screwdriver. Either packs smaller than its box.

The $49.99 backpack is the padded option.
