Transfer into the cup is required and the step over the side is awkward for anyone with limited mobility.

What it’s actually like

You control the spin. Left alone the cup turns gently; turned hard by an enthusiastic child it becomes disorienting. There are no drops and nothing dark — the only intensity here is the one you generate, which makes it the rare ride where a nervous rider is entirely in charge.

Do you have to spin on the Mad Tea Party?

No, and this is the most useful thing to know about it. The wheel in the middle of the cup is what spins you, and leaving it alone gives a gentle ride on a rotating platform. The nausea people associate with the teacups is almost always self-inflicted by a teenager on the wheel.

Is the Mad Tea Party bad for motion sickness?

It can be the worst ride on the property for it, and also one of the mildest, depending entirely on who is in your cup. Agree before you board. If anyone is prone to it, take a cup with people who will keep their hands off the wheel.

Is there a height requirement for the Mad Tea Party?

No, though the step over the side of the cup is awkward and Disney lists a required transfer for wheelchair and ECV users. Small children need a hand getting in.

Is the Mad Tea Party worth queueing for?

Rarely more than a few minutes' wait, and it averaged 8 minutes against a 13-minute peak in 2025–26 — only the carrousel, at 7, is shorter in Fantasyland. Two minutes long, so ride it when the line is short and skip it when it is not.
