Disney cruise packing list: what to bring, what Disney already gives you, and what gets taken away (2026 rules)

What changed in Disney's cruise packing rules in 2026?

Three rules changed for sailings from 3 June 2026. Disney updated its own FAQ pages on 28 May, and the Disney Cruise Line Blog reprinted the new wording the same day.

• Alcohol — One unopened bottle of wine or sparkling wine, up to 750 ml, or six beers of up to 12 ounces, per guest 21 or over, at the start of the cruise, in a carry-on
• Corkage — $20 a bottle in the dining rooms, $9 lower than before
• Port purchases — All alcohol bought ashore is held until the end of the cruise
• Selfie sticks and tripods — Allowed in most areas folded to 18 inches or less; longer ones stay in the stateroom and are used ashore
• Door decorations — On the door only, never the corridor walls or ceiling; no tape or adhesives; over-the-door organizers prohibited; $100 per incident for damage

The alcohol allowance halved. A planDisney panelist in March 2025 still quoted up to two bottles of wine. Guests on round trips from Singapore may bring alcohol at 18.

What does Disney already put in your stateroom?

More than most packing lists assume, so you can leave several things at home.

• Hair dryer — In a fabric bag in a desk drawer, not the bathroom
• Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hand soap — In the bathroom, refilled during the cruise
• Pool and beach towels — On the pool deck and waiting at Disney's islands
• Outlets — A mix of US 110-volt and European 220-volt sockets, with USB ports by the bed on newer ships

The hair dryer and toiletries are from TouringPlans and planDisney, the towels from planDisney in January 2026, the outlets from planDisney in October 2024. Each generation of ship has more outlets, and the Magic and Wonder have the fewest.

In our Disney Treasure stateroom in August 2026, one nightstand had only a European socket and USB ports; the US sockets were on the other side and at the desk. We used the supplied hair dryer and did not pack one.

Can you bring a power strip, a hair dryer or a charger on a Disney cruise?

Not a power strip. Disney's prohibited list bans "extension cords, power strips, multi-plugs and surge protectors", as a planDisney panelist quoted it in September 2025. So are streaming sticks such as a Fire Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast or Roku, on Disney's own list as we read it on 15 September 2026.

Irons, steamers, coffee makers and hot plates are banned too; every ship has laundry rooms with irons.⁴ Confiscated items are returned at the end of the cruise.

A USB charging block is fine. Three planDisney panelists, in 2023, 2024 and 2025, said a single wall plug with several USB ports is allowed, while noting that the crew decide on the day.

A correction to our own video. In our Treasure video, Melissa says the multi-outlet chargers we travel with are allowed. The precise rule is narrower: what planDisney's panelists describe as allowed is a single plug with USB ports. A plug that adds extra mains sockets is a multi-plug, and Disney's list bans it.

Check yours before you pack it.

Your own hair dryer may be up to 1,500 watts on a 110-volt socket or 2,000 watts on a 220-volt one, according to a planDisney answer citing Disney's site. Disney Dining reported in November 2025 that a dryer was confiscated on a Destiny press sailing under that rule.

What should go in your carry-on, and what can go in your checked bag?

Your checked bags disappear at the port for most of the afternoon, so the carry-on is for anything you need before evening and anything that must not be checked.

• Passports or birth certificates, medication — Clothes, shoes, toiletries
• Alcohol, within the allowance — Unopened, factory-sealed snacks
• Sealed non-alcoholic drinks — Magnetic hooks and other extras
• Swimwear, sunscreen, chargers

Disney removes alcohol found in checked luggage and offers no compensation, its FAQ says. Sealed drinks must also be carried on, a planDisney panelist said in November 2025. Homemade food, fresh fruit and opened packets are not allowed at all.

What should you wear on a Disney cruise?

Mostly what you would wear on any warm-weather holiday, plus one or two dressier outfits and something for Pirate Night.

Pirate Night runs on cruises in the Caribbean, the Bahamas and from the West Coast to Mexico.⁶ Anything from jeans to full costume is normal, and Palo allows pirate dress that night.⁹

Sources disagree on formal nights for short cruises. EverythingMouse, updated this week, says three-, four- and seven-night cruises all have one optional formal night and at least one semi-formal night. One magazine's 2023 guide says three- and four-night cruises have an optional dress-up night rather than a dedicated formal one.⁷ Either way it is optional, and the Navigator app shows each evening's theme.

Adult dining became dress-casual in February 2024. Palo now accepts jeans in good condition and collared shirts, and dress shorts at brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse.⁶

What do experienced Disney cruisers pack that is not on Disney's list?

Magnetic hooks, first; they are the answer to Disney's ban on over-the-door organizers. On the Treasure the walls took magnets, and we used small hooks for hats, lanyards and light shirts; anything heavier slid down.

Which surfaces are magnetic depends on the ship. DISboards posters confirmed the Wish's walls in 2022. On the older ships they disagree: a 2018 thread found only doors, frames and ceilings magnetic, while posters in 2022 reported walls on the Dream and Fantasy and argued about the Wonder. Doors and ceilings are the safe bet everywhere.

The rest of our list is short. A folding hamper keeps a small room tidy on a long sailing, and a refillable water bottle is on planDisney's list too. If you want bottled water in the room, room service sells it by the six, or you can order it ahead so it is waiting, as we did.
