What's changing at Disney World in 2026 and 2027 — what closed, what's closed now, and what's coming

What changed at Disney World in 2026?

• DinoLand U.S.A. closed. DINOSAUR gave its last rides on 1 February 2026, and the land is being rebuilt as Tropical Americas, according to Disney Parks Blog.
• Conservation Station reopened with Bluey. Rafiki's Planet Watch closed on 23 February and reopened on 26 May with Bluey's Wild World and a kangaroo and wallaby habitat, reached by the Wildlife Express train (Disney Parks Blog).
• Rock 'n' Roller Coaster became the Muppets'. The Aerosmith version's last day was 1 March 2026; Disney now lists Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.
• Big Thunder Mountain reopened on 3 May 2026 after a 16-month refurbishment, with a 38-inch height requirement.⁸
• Frozen Ever After reopened in February with new Audio-Animatronics of Anna, Elsa and Kristoff (Disney Tourist Blog).
• Carousel of Progress closed on 6 July for new show scenes.

What is closed at Disney World right now?

Our what's closed page reads Disney's own schedule every day, so it is the live list. On 13 September 2026 it showed:

• Typhoon Lagoon, closed for refurbishment since 9 September with no reopening date (Inside the Magic); Blizzard Beach is open.
• Carousel of Progress, which Disney's page expects back in late spring 2027.
• Coral Reef Restaurant at EPCOT, closed for maintenance from 8 September, back on Disney's schedule from 4 November.
• The Walt Disney World Railroad, closing for refurbishment from 28 September, expected back in November.
• Tiana's Bayou Adventure, closing from 2 November, expected back in December 2026.
• La Signature in EPCOT's France pavilion, closed since 8 June for several months.¹¹

The Skyliner closes for its annual refurbishment from 24 to 30 January 2027, Disney says, with buses in its place.

What is opening at Disney World in 2027?

Four things, and only one has a season from Disney:

• Carousel of Progress returns with all-new scenes in late spring 2027, on Disney's own page.
• Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom, an 11-acre land with an Encanto ride, a new Indiana Jones adventure and a carousel. Disney has said 2027, but in September 2026 it removed the year from the Disney World website. One planning site expects a phased opening running into 2028; BlogMickey notes Disney Parks Blog still says 2027.⁷
• Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios, the Monsters, Inc. land on the old Muppet*Vision 3D and Grand Avenue site. Most of it opens in 2027 and its suspended Door Coaster later, on the published accounts of Disney's announcements.
• Disney Lakeshore Lodge, a new resort, is scheduled for summer 2027.¹⁵

Inside the Magic reported September for Tropical Americas and November for Monstropolis as target months in August 2026, and said itself that they are speculation, not dates Disney has given.

What is coming after 2027?

Two Magic Kingdom projects with no dates: Villains Land, a villains-themed area, and Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-themed area in Frontierland. WDW Magazine's August 2026 round-up says Disney has announced neither date, and calls both farther out than 2027.

Should you wait until 2027 to visit?

Only if one of the new lands is the point of the trip. The dates are soft: Disney has given a season for only one of the four 2027 openings, and WDW Magazine warns that an early-2027 and a late-2027 visit could be very different.

A trip in the first half of 2027 will likely look much like 2026, with Animal Kingdom still at five rides. If you go sooner, the one-day guides for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are built on the parks as they are now.
