The short answer
The Grand Floridian has a walking path to Magic Kingdom — around three quarters of a mile, longer than the Contemporary's. Rooms start around $816 a night in 2026. It is also the most formal resort on property, which is the point for some guests and the problem for others.

We haven’t timed this resort yet. A door-to-gate time goes here once we have walked the route with a stopwatch at least five times — a single reading hides the variation that actually makes people miss a breakfast reservation. How we measure.

Who it’s right for
Magic Kingdom-focused trips where walking home beats every alternative, adults travelling without children who want the calmest deluxe on the monorail loop, and anyone who will actually use Victoria & Albert's or afternoon tea. It is also the best resort on property for working remotely, by a distance.
Who it’s wrong for
Families who want a resort their children find exciting. Next to the Polynesian's volcano pool and Trader Sam's, the Grand Floridian reads as a nice hotel — the theming is restraint, not immersion, and small children notice. It is also the wrong choice for a four-park trip: like every monorail resort, the advantage is Magic Kingdom-shaped and disappears everywhere else.
Is it worth the money?
The walking path is the honest answer, and it is a bigger deal than the monorail. Being able to leave Magic Kingdom at fireworks and be in your room in fifteen minutes, on foot, with no queue and no transfer, is the single best transport situation at Walt Disney World, and it is the one thing here no other resort can offer at any price.
Everything else you are paying for, the marble and the band and the tea, is taste. If the formality appeals, it is worth it. If it does not, the Polynesian gives you the same monorail and a larger room for $60 less.

What the rooms are actually like
About 400 square feet on average across 867 rooms in six buildings, sleeping five with two queens and a daybed. The 2022 refurbishment brought a restrained Mary Poppins theme — pale, elegant, and much less overtly Disney than the Polynesian's. Whether that reads as sophisticated or as a slightly anonymous nice hotel is genuinely a matter of taste.

Every room type, and who fits in it
Disney returns one room list for the whole property, covering the Grand Floridian and the Villas at the Grand Floridian. It does not say which rooms belong to which, so neither do we. Straight from Disney’s own booking data, checked 2026-09-19. Occupancy excludes infants — Disney counts a baby in a cot separately, which is why a room that “sleeps 5” here can appear as 6 on their site.

Which room should you request?
The main building holds the lobby, the restaurants and the live band, and rooms there hear all three. The outer lodge buildings are quieter and further — Sugar Loaf and Conch Key are closest to the monorail, Boca Chica and Big Pine Key are the longest walks. The walking path to Magic Kingdom leaves from near the wedding pavilion end, which is not where most rooms are.

What has changed recently?
Rooms were fully refurbished in 2022 to the current Mary Poppins-influenced scheme. The Perch, a new bar, opened in late 2025. The walking path to Magic Kingdom opened in late 2020, and contrary to how it is often described, it is not the only one: the Contemporary's walk to the park is older and shorter, and this same path also serves the Polynesian.
Working from here
excellent
A proper desk in most rooms, reliable wifi, and — unusually for Walt Disney World — several quiet indoor places to sit and work that are not a restaurant. The lobby seating, the Garden View lounge outside tea hours and the convention centre spaces all work. The best remote-work resort on property.
Common questions
- Can you walk from the Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom?
- Yes, and so can guests at the Contemporary — its path is older and shorter. The Grand Floridian's walkway opened in late 2020 and also serves the Polynesian. The walk takes roughly as long as waiting for and riding the monorail and removes the queue entirely; walking out after fireworks, past the queue for everything else, is the reason people pay for this resort.
- How much is the Grand Floridian per night?
- From about $816 in the cheapest 2026 season to $1,350 over Christmas for a standard room, rack rate including 12.5% tax. That is roughly $60 a night more than the Polynesian at the bottom of the range and about the same at the top.
- Grand Floridian or Polynesian?
- The Grand Floridian for the walking path, the calm, and if you will use the restaurants; the Polynesian for larger rooms, a daybed that genuinely sleeps a fifth person, and theming children respond to. Both are on the monorail and both lose that advantage the moment you leave Magic Kingdom.
- Is Victoria & Albert's worth it?
- It is the only AAA Five Diamond restaurant in Florida and a formal multi-course evening with a jacket requirement and a separate booking window. It is also the most expensive meal at Walt Disney World by a wide margin. Worth it as an occasion; not worth booking because you are staying at the resort.
