Walt Disney World in August
The short answer
August at Walt Disney World averages a high of 89°F and tops 90°F on 32% of days. Some rain falls on 94% of days, but only 47% get a quarter inch or more, the wettest of the year.
Should you go to Walt Disney World in August?
The month that changes character completely partway through. The first half is peak summer — hot, crowded and expensive. Then the southern school districts go back, and the last ten days of August become one of the quietest and cheapest windows of the entire year.
It is still brutally hot and it is inside hurricane season. But for anyone not tied to a school calendar, late August into early September is the biggest crowd-and-price drop available anywhere on the calendar, and Food & Wine opens right in the middle of it.

These are not crowd levels. We do not publish a crowd index, because we do not have the years of wait data an honest one needs. The label describes the strength of the demand drivers named in the last column — school holidays, race weekends, ticketed party nights and rate seasons — every one of which you can check against a calendar. Where a busyness ranking is another publication’s judgment, it is attributed to them by name.
How long the queues actually are in August
On Queue-Times’ crowd index, August now runs at 32.5%, which makes it the 10th busiest of the twelve months for queueing. Before 2020 the same month ran at 59.1% — 27 points higher.

The parks do not agree in August. Animal Kingdom runs at 41% against a four-park average of 32.5% — 9 points busier than the month as a whole. Booking a park day on the headline figure would get this one wrong.
This is queue length, not attendance. Crowd level is Queue-Times’ own index, built primarily from posted wait times, where 0% is the quietest day in their record since 2014 and 100% the busiest. Disney reported attendance up 3% in the quarter to June 2026 while average waits fell — reopened rides, new parades pulling people out of queues, longer hours and less Lightning Lane inventory all shorten a line without removing anyone from the park. A low number here means you will queue less. It does not mean the walkways will be empty.

From 372 August days on record, 2015–2026. The two rain figures differ because most Florida rain is a short shower, and a month described only by “days with rain” sounds far worse than it is.

What’s actually running in August
The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival opens in late August — 27 August in 2026, running to 21 November — and it is the biggest of the four festivals, with the most booths and the Eat to the Beat concert series.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has moved steadily earlier and now begins in the first half of August; in 2026 the first party night was 7 August. On party nights Magic Kingdom closes to day guests in the early evening, so an August evening at Magic Kingdom is no longer a safe assumption.
Who August is right for
Anyone without school-age children who wants the lowest prices and shortest waits and can tolerate real heat. Late August is the value sweet spot of the year, and unlike September it still has full summer park hours.
And who should pick another month
Anyone who cannot cope with heat and humidity at their annual maximum, and anyone travelling without trip insurance late in the month — this is the start of the serious part of hurricane season.
The mistake people make booking August
Booking a late-August evening at Magic Kingdom without checking the party calendar. Halloween party nights now start in early August, and on those nights the park closes to ordinary tickets hours earlier than the published resort-wide hours suggest. Disney publishes the two calendars separately.
