May at Walt Disney World averages a high of 88°F and tops 90°F on 35% of days, among the three hottest months. Some rain falls on 59% of days, but only 20% get a quarter inch or more.
Should you go to Walt Disney World in May?
The last comfortable month before the Florida summer, and the most consistently sensible compromise on the calendar. School is still in session almost everywhere until the very end, the heat has not fully arrived, the afternoon storm season has barely started, and Flower & Garden is still running.
It is not the cheapest month and it is not the quietest, but it is the one that is good at everything and bad at nothing — which for a first trip is worth more than winning any single category.

These are not crowd levels. We do not publish a crowd index, because we do not have the years of wait data an honest one needs. The label describes the strength of the demand drivers named in the last column — school holidays, race weekends, ticketed party nights and rate seasons — every one of which you can check against a calendar. Where a busyness ranking is another publication’s judgment, it is attributed to them by name.
How long the queues actually are in May
On Queue-Times’ crowd index, May now runs at 44.9%, which makes it the 6th busiest of the twelve months for queueing. Before 2020 the same month ran at 64.8% — 20 points higher.

The parks do not agree in May. EPCOT runs at 54.5% against a four-park average of 44.9% — 10 points busier than the month as a whole. Booking a park day on the headline figure would get this one wrong.
This is queue length, not attendance. Crowd level is Queue-Times’ own index, built primarily from posted wait times, where 0% is the quietest day in their record since 2014 and 100% the busiest. Disney reported attendance up 3% in the quarter to June 2026 while average waits fell — reopened rides, new parades pulling people out of queues, longer hours and less Lightning Lane inventory all shorten a line without removing anyone from the park. A low number here means you will queue less. It does not mean the walkways will be empty.

What’s on in May
What’s actually running in May
Flower & Garden runs to the start of June — 1 June in 2026 — so May gets the full festival with fewer people in it than March or April. Garden Rocks continues most evenings.
Park hours are long by May, and this is the first month of the year when late evenings are genuinely pleasant, not merely tolerable.
Who May is right for
First-time visitors, and anyone who wants one month that does not require a trade-off they have to think about. Also good for anyone wanting the water parks — May is warm enough for them and both are normally open by now.
And who should pick another month
Bargain hunters. May is not a value month, and the last week of it prices like summer. Anyone whose only priority is the lowest possible rate should be looking at January, late August or September instead.
The mistake people make booking May
Assuming the school year protects the end of the month. Southern and Texan districts break up in the third week of May, well before the northeast, so the last ten days behave like June rather than like the rest of May.
