Walt Disney World in October
The short answer
October at Walt Disney World averages a high of 82°F and tops 90°F on 1% of days. Some rain falls on 53% of days, but only 14% get a quarter inch or more. Magic Kingdom closes early to day guests on 11 of the 22 days we hold hours for.
Should you go to Walt Disney World in October?
The best weather of the autumn and much busier than its reputation. The heat finally breaks, Food & Wine and the Halloween overlay are both running, and October has quietly become one of the most popular months of the year, not a shoulder month.
It divides sharply. The fall-break stretch in the middle of the month is, by some accounts, the second-busiest week of the year after Easter. The window between that and Halloween is much softer, with the same weather and the same festivals.

These are not crowd levels. We do not publish a crowd index, because we do not have the years of wait data an honest one needs. The label describes the strength of the demand drivers named in the last column — school holidays, race weekends, ticketed party nights and rate seasons — every one of which you can check against a calendar. Where a busyness ranking is another publication’s judgment, it is attributed to them by name.
How long the queues actually are in October
On Queue-Times’ crowd index, October now runs at 32.4%, which makes it the 11th busiest of the twelve months for queueing. Before 2020 the same month ran at 58.9% — 27 points higher.

The parks do not agree in October. EPCOT runs at 44% against a four-park average of 32.4% — 12 points busier than the month as a whole. Booking a park day on the headline figure would get this one wrong.
This is queue length, not attendance. Crowd level is Queue-Times’ own index, built primarily from posted wait times, where 0% is the quietest day in their record since 2014 and 100% the busiest. Disney reported attendance up 3% in the quarter to June 2026 while average waits fell — reopened rides, new parades pulling people out of queues, longer hours and less Lightning Lane inventory all shorten a line without removing anyone from the park. A low number here means you will queue less. It does not mean the walkways will be empty.

How long the parks are open — and what Disney expects

Disney publishes park hours months ahead and sets them on its own forecast: a longer operating day is Disney committing staff and utilities because it expects the park to be busy. It is not a crowd level, and we are not going to print one we cannot support — it is the operator’s own expectation, in a number they publish and you can check.
We hold published hours for 2 months so far — Disney releases them roughly six months out. A month-against-month ranking appears here once there are at least 6 to compare, not a position calculated from two.

Nights the parks close early
A hard-ticket evening event closes the park to regular day guests hours before its usual time. With an ordinary park ticket you are asked to leave; with a party ticket you get in from the afternoon. Either way, booking one of these dates without knowing costs you an evening.

Extended Evening hours
Open to Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resort guests, and far quieter than the same park in daylight. Disney has at times extended it to other hotels on property; we have not been able to confirm the current list against Disney’s own page, so check before you count on it.

Early Entry ran on 71 park-days this October. It opens every park roughly 30 minutes early, every day of your stay including check-in and check-out day, for guests of Disney resort hotels and a short list of others — the Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve and Shades of Green among them.
What’s actually running in October
Food & Wine runs all month and October is its busiest stretch — the booths on a Saturday evening in World Showcase are the most crowded the festival gets.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs on select nights to 31 October, with Magic Kingdom closing early to day guests on each. The Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend falls in late October — 22–25 October in 2026.
This is also the month the weather turns: October is the first month since spring when a full day outdoors is comfortable rather than a stamina exercise.
Who October is right for
Anyone who wants good weather and both seasonal overlays at once, and who can travel either side of the fall-break week. For guests who found summer intolerable and winter too cold for the pools, October is usually the right answer.
And who should pick another month
Anyone expecting a quiet shoulder month. October is not one any more, and the mid-month fall-break window in particular is priced and crowded like a peak season. Also wrong for anyone who wants Magic Kingdom evenings without checking a calendar first — party nights are frequent.
The mistake people make booking October
Booking mid-October on the old assumption that autumn is quiet. That fortnight is now among the busiest of the year. The last ten days of the month deliver the same weather and the same festivals with noticeably less demand.
