Rider Switch at Disney World: the 22 rides that offer it, how it works, and how much waiting it saves

How does Rider Switch work at Disney World?

Your group splits in two at the ride entrance, with everyone present. Disney's page sets out the steps:

• 1 — Tell the cast member at the entrance you want Rider Switch
• 2 — Party A queues and rides; Party B waits outside with the child
• 3 — A cast member scans Party B's tickets and tells you where to come back to
• 4 — When Party A is done, up to two people from Party B go to that return entrance
• 5 — Their tickets are scanned again and they board without the standard queue

If Party B is one person, one rider from Party A may ride again with them, Disney says. So a family of three can get a parent two rides for one queue.

Who can use Rider Switch?

Rider Switch is not only for children under the height limit. Disney names three situations: someone in the party does not meet the boarding requirements, or will not ride, and cannot wait outside the queue alone; a guest has a service animal that cannot board; or a guest cannot manage the queue itself because of their needs.

Which Disney World rides have Rider Switch, and how much time does it save?

Disney's page lists 22 rides. The time saved for the second adult is roughly the ride's standby wait, so the table sets each one beside its average posted wait across 2025 and 2026 and the average of each day's peak, from Queue-Times' published statistics. Heights are from Disney's attraction finder.

Posted waits run above actual ones, so treat the savings as upper estimates. The big ones are the modern headliners: TRON, Cosmic Rewind, Slinky Dog Dash, Test Track and Flight of Passage all averaged close to an hour.

Is Rider Switch available at every Disney World ride?

Disney's own page says two things. Its opening says Rider Switch is available "at most attractions", and its list, headed "a complete list", names 22. We go by the list, and ask at the entrance of any ride not on it.

One ride stands out as missing. Of every attraction with a height limit on Disney's own finder, only Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, at 38 inches, is not on the Rider Switch list as we read both on 15 September 2026. Ask there anyway; our what's closed page tracks rides that are shut.

How do you plan a day around Rider Switch?

Put the long-wait rides first, because that is where the second adult saves the most. On a morning at Hollywood Studios, Slinky Dog Dash and Rise of the Resistance together averaged 111 minutes of posted wait; with Rider Switch one adult queues for both and the other rides both without queueing.
